#52 Gef The Talking Mongoose: The Eighth Wonder… or the Perfect Hoax

There’s a farmhouse on a windswept hill on the Isle of Man where, in 1931, a family claimed something moved into their walls.

At first, it sounded like an animal.

Scratching. Rustling. The kind of thing you’d ignore.

Until it started mimicking voices.

Then singing.

Then speaking… in full sentences.

It called itself Gef.

And according to the Irving family, this wasn’t just some strange creature hiding in the walls. It was something intelligent. Something that could see everything happening inside the house. An “extra, extra clever mongoose”
