Root causes, real healing: A functional medicine journey from motherhood to medicine

Root causes, real healing: A functional medicine journey from motherhood to medicine

In this latest episode on Prim Rose Light, I was delighted to welcome Nishta Patel. Nishtha entered functional medicine not through trend or theory, but through lived experience. When her daughter was diagnosed with IBD at 14, she found herself searching for answers beyond symptom suppression. That search led her to functional medicine, where she trained formally and discovered a framework that aligned with her instinct to ask why the body behaves the way it does.

Today she works with individuals facing complex gut andautoimmune conditions, combining clinical testing, lifestyle medicine, nutrition, stress physiology and nervous system support. As an Indian woman, she integrates the everyday Ayurvedic practices she grew up with whole spices, warm meals, ginger, cumin, circadian rhythm now understood through a scientific lens.

Her work is grounded, compassionate and deeply practical. She believes healing is not about extremes but about consistent habits, reducing inflammation, supporting gut integrity and building resilience.

Through her one‑to‑one practice and her retreats with Wellness Mommas, she creates spaces where people feel seen, supported and empowered.

Find Nishtha at thegutexpert.com and on Instagram @thegutexpert_.
