If you've ever done a fitness photo shoot - this episode is for you!

If you've ever done a fitness photo shoot - this episode is for you!

This week's episode is a niche one, but one that I really wanted to talk about.

If you have never done a fitness photo shoot, stay with me because this crosses over into chronic dieting too. If you're always on a diet, always doing an eight-week thing or a three-month thing, this is for you as well.

But mainly, I'm talking to you if you have ever done a fitness shoot. Dieted for eight weeks, twelve weeks, whatever it was and then had the shoot at the end of it.

Over half the women at one of my mindful eating workshops had done a fitness photo shoot in the past.

And I've seen exactly what happens next.

In this episode I cover -

  • The shoot is the peak and nobody prepares you for the drop. Eight weeks of discipline, sacrifice, saying no to everything. And then it's over. The goal is gone. And the body you worked so hard to achieve starts to change. Nobody psychologically tells you how to handle that. Six months later you're looking back at those photos feeling like a failure even though the photos are right there.

  • What actually happens afterwards. When the structure disappears, the body fights back. The tracking carries on because it feels safe, but the results don't come like before. The floodgates open. The f*** it button gets pressed. And then the spiral. This isn't weakness, this is exactly what happens when you've been pushed to peak condition for a single day and then left without a plan for the day after.

  • My clients story. She did twelve weeks of prep. Got incredible photos. Received all the external validation, the "your willpower is amazing, I could never do that." And then couldn't switch off. Kept tracking, felt guilty for eating more, stopped getting the results and eventually hit a wall. We worked together for five to six months. She got back to trusting herself around food, enjoying her training again, and building a relationship with her body that isn't tied to what it looks like. She'll never do a photo shoot again and she's okay with that (or eat an Aldi protein yoghurt).

  • You don't need more discipline. The shoot is designed not to be maintainable. It is peak condition for one day, not a healthy, sustainable body. You never needed more willpower. You just needed the right tools.

  • What changes when you do the work. The food noise quietens. The tracking stops. You trust yourself around food again. Training becomes something you enjoy rather than something tied to how you look. And your body image becomes yours, not a comparison to a photo taken at your most depleted.

  • Thinking about doing a shoot? Come and have a chat first. Not to talk you out of it, just so you know what you're walking into, and you've got the tools to handle the other side.
Your relationship with food can be easy. Unremarkable. Something you just don't think about that much anymore.

And it is possible to get there.
