Why We Don’t Trust Love (And How to Open to It Again)

Life is a process.

You are a process. You are a work in process. A work in progress.

What’s progress? What’s the endpoint?

There is no beginning. There is no end.

I’ve been thinking about happiness. It’s really an interesting word. We take it for granted.

“I’m happy.”

Certain things make us happy that seem external: dancing, music, experiences, people.

But try to zero in on the feeling itself when you feel happy.

Often we think happiness requires something outside of us—an external experience. Yet happiness is actually an internal experience.

Unfortunately, getting down into that internal experience often requires moving through layers of pain, sadness, and grief. A lot of grief.

And then there’s the anger sitting on top of everything, protecting you.

When you move through that, you eventually reach something deeper:

Love.

Maybe that’s what I should talk about.

What does that baseline love feel like?

It’s the feeling you have when you look at a puppy.

If you don’t feel anything when you look at a puppy, you’re probably shutting something down.

Puppies were practically created to look at you with those eyes and open your heart automatically.

Babies are the same way.

This is the kind of work we practice every day inside Siren Island—not just talking about love, happiness, and connection, but learning how to experience them more deeply in our real lives.

Especially with everything happening in the world right now, having real community matters so much. Not just another app you scroll past, but a space that feels supportive, alive, feminine, and nourishing to return to.
