Leaving Mormonism, People Pleasing, and Finding My Voice

Leaving Mormonism, People Pleasing, and Finding My Voice

For a long time, being “good” meant being easy. Easy to agree with. Easy to understand. Easy to fit inside the lines.

In this first episode of Unladylike Thoughts, Marcie shares what it was like growing up Mormon in Utah, getting married young, following all the “right” rules, and eventually leaving the church to rediscover her own voice.

This isn’t about shock value. It’s about honesty in the spaces where honesty usually gets smoothed over.

In this episode, we talk about:

• Growing up in the Mormon church in Utah

• Religious expectations around modesty, marriage, and gender roles

• Getting married at 18 and checking all the “right” boxes

• Leaving Mormonism and navigating religious deconstruction

• Divorce after faith transition

• People pleasing and shrinking yourself to fit

• Shame around sexuality and purity culture

• Learning to trust your intuition

• Reclaiming your voice after leaving religion

Unladylike Thoughts is for anyone who has:

• Left a religion or questioned their faith

• Felt pressure to be “palatable”

• Struggled with people pleasing

• Experienced shame around sexuality

• Wondered who they are outside of expectation

You don’t have to have grown up Mormon.

You just have to know what it feels like to hold a thought you weren’t supposed to say out loud.

Unladylike Thoughts is a relationship and identity podcast hosted by Marcie Reeves.

This show lives in the gray.

Where love, desire, identity, and expectation collide.

No shame.

No fake perfect.

No skipping the uncomfortable parts.

New episodes every Tuesday.
