Ep.11: Growing the game, protecting stars, and more with Kris Versteeg

Kick your week off with a new episode of The DFO Rundown with Jason Gregor and Frank Seravalli! Today on the pod, Frank started things off by ranting about the NHL's current schedule and how he's sick of seeing the same teams over and over again. Should the NHL find a way to keep more rivalry games in the schedule going forward? Or do they need to get back to the old format ASAP? They also touched on the Nikita Kucherov situation before getting to their guest this week, former NHLer Kris Versteeg.

Versteeg brought the heat today on the pod. He started by talking about the comments that he made on Saturday night about Connor McDavid and the NHL's inability to protect its stars. He also talked about what the league needs to do to grow the game more. Versteeg, or 'Ver-Beauty' as he's also known, also talked about his career, his time as a defenseman, playing with Patrick Kane and more! We ended our chat with Versteeg by hitting him with some hard questions in a fresh round of 'Rapid Fire'.

Ep 27: The Ultimate Roundtable: Playoff Edition with Ferraro & O'Dog

Ep 27: The Ultimate Roundtable: Playoff Edition with Ferraro & O'Dog

With all 16 playoff spots essentially locked up, we figured today was a good time to do our Ultimate Playoff Roundtable (pres. by Manscaped)! Frank and Jason were joined by Ray Ferraro and Jeff O'Neil to get set for the playoffs.   Before bringing in the big guests, they got into the recent coaching news surrounding John Tortorella and Ron Brind' Amour. Frank talked about how the new deal between Rod and the Canes has likely been done for a while, but Brind'Amour is making sure everyone around him gets paid first.   With O'Dog and Ferraro, they started by looking at the Central Division where the Hurricanes are looking like the favourites but the Lightning and Panthers are right behind them. They also touched on the likely first-round matchups in the Canadian Division. Can the Habs pull of an upset? It might come down to goaltending. Will McDavid continue his dominance in the postseason? That will likely decide the Oilers' fate. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 24: Quick, Call Noodles!

Ep 24: Quick, Call Noodles!

Episode 24 of The DFO Rundown is here! Our boy Frank Seravalli is under the weather today so we had to make a quick call to Jamie McLennan from TSN to join Jason Gregor today on the podcast! To kick off today's episode, the guys talked about the insane amount of games that Noodles has watched this season (hint: it's a lot). On that topic, they went around the league and looked at how some of the big trade deadline acquisitions are performing with their new teams. Of course, you can't have Noodles on and not talk a little bit about goaltending. Gregor got him to touch on the likes on Philip Grubauer, Mike Smith, and Freddy Andersen. We also got Noodles to take part in this week's edition of Buy/Sell that saw us touch on Ryan Miller, Spencer Knight, Kirill Kaprizov (again), the Flyers, and Connor McDavid's pursuit of 100. Ep 23: Call Me Whatever You Want, I'm in the NHL (feat. Bob Beers)

Ep 23: Call Me Whatever You Want, I'm in the NHL (feat. Bob Beers)

Another episode of The DFO Rundown with Frank Seravalli and Jason Gregor is here! This week's episode features a great chat with former NHLer and current Bruins analyst Bob Beers, who talked about the Bruins recent play, his own career in the NHL, and having one of the best names in hockey history! Before the chat with Bob, Frank and Jason got into Sidney Crosby once again hitting up a point per game, some potential changes to the length of the season, playoff matchups, and more!   How long can Crosby keep up an elite level? That was the first question we tackled this week on the pod. That led into a conversation about Patrick Marleau's games played record and how impressive it really is. There is also some talk that the NHL might expand the regular season to 84 games and that led the guys to a debate about if the league should consider changing up the playoff seeding system. They wrapped up the opening segment by looking at 'Kirill the Thrill' and the surging Minnesota Wild. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep. 20: Turning the page on the deadline & talking about the draft with Chris Peters!

Ep. 20: Turning the page on the deadline & talking about the draft with Chris Peters!

With the trade deadline in the rear-view mirror, we decided to turn our attention to the draft this week on The DFO Rundown! In a normal season, this is right around the time when the league's draft lottery would be happening and with a lot of teams already out of the playoff race, now seemed like a perfect time to take a peek at the next wave of NHL stars. To do that, who better to bring into the podcast than Chris Peters of HockeySense!   Chris is now in his second decade of scouting NHL prospects but of course, with the pandemic, this season has been unlike any other. Chris talked to us about how much difficult it is to scout a player solely off video and also, lessons he's learned through his 10 plus years of watching prospects. From there, we got into some of the big names in this year's draft class like Owen Power, the two elite goalies in this year's class, and a name that already has scouts split. We also touched on Cole Caufield, who was recalled by the Montreal Canadiens today. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
