80: 5 Unconventional Things We Do in Business that Sound Crazy, But Totally Work!

In this week’s episode of Talk Tovey To Me, we’re diving into the five unconventional things we do in business that might just flip the way you think about running your own show. Trust us, these aren’t your typical business tips, but they’ve been total game-changers for us! 🧠✨

But before we get into the juicy stuff, we’re kicking off with our usual updates—because what's a pod episode without a little life catch-up, right? Meg’s been hitting her CPD requirements for sports nutrition (spoiler: energy deficiencies and overtraining are a vibe!) and Jess has been locked into all things business and beauty, including signing contracts with Bella Beauty to host her training courses. 💅🏼

Now, let’s break down the five unconventional business moves we swear by:

  1. We Only Work 3 Days a Week With Clients
People are always asking why we don’t work five days a week, but we’ve structured our schedules this way on purpose. It’s not just about the money—it’s about creating a freedom-based lifestyle. This move creates scarcity, which positions us as premium, high-demand professionals, and gives us the flexibility to work on the business, not just in it.

  2. We Don’t Time Block (And Here’s Why)
We know, we know—everyone’s out there telling you to block out your day, but for us, it’s about consistency over discipline. If we don’t get a task done at 9 AM, that’s fine—we’ll get it done at 9 PM. It's more about honoring our own energy levels and working in flow rather than forcing things into rigid schedules.

  3. We Don’t Watch Our Competitors on Social Media
Sure, we scroll Insta like anyone else, but we have zero interest in what our competitors are doing. Why? Because we don’t want to be swayed or influenced by them. Our ideas come from our own experiences, our clients, and what feels authentic to us. This keeps our content and offers fresh and unique.

  4. We Don’t Take “No” for an Answer
When someone says no, we see it as an opportunity. Meg shares the epic story of how she and Nick landed a coaching deal with a big dog in real estate, even after being told he wasn’t taking new clients. Pro tip: A steak lunch can go a long way. Moral of the story? If you want something, find a way to make it happen.

  5. We Don’t Handle Admin Inquiries Ourselves
This might sound simple, but it’s a huge shift. We don't personally respond to rescheduling, cancellations, or refunds. Why? Because it helps us maintain our boundaries and authority without getting bogged down in the icky stuff. Delegating this allows us to focus on the high-impact tasks that actually move the needle in our businesses.

That’s it for now, dirty dogs! If you’re vibing with this episode, we would love it if you could hit follow or subscribe wherever you’re listening. We know there’s a bunch of you who tune in weekly (thank you!), but if you’re not following yet, help us grow!
