How Sound Healing Links Ancient and Modern Medicine – Dr. Kulreet Chaudhary with Dave Asprey : 815

How Sound Healing Links Ancient and Modern Medicine – Dr. Kulreet Chaudhary with Dave Asprey : 815

This episode of Bulletproof Radio is an interesting mix of sound healing knowledge pulled from Eastern traditions and Western medicine.

Dr. Kulreet Chaudhary, a neurologist and neuroscientist immersed in the field of Integrative Medicine, joins me to talk about the science of sound and just how much we’re learning from ancient teachings.

She’s participated in more than 20 clinical research studies in the areas of multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and diabetic peripheral neuropathy. Her research also includes groundbreaking work in stem cell therapies for diabetic peripheral neuropathy and drug development for the treatment of ALS.

As the former Director of Wellspring Health in Scripps Memorial Hospital for a decade, she developed a system to manage chronic neurological disorders such as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease and migraine headaches. This system asks a lot of “whys” and goes way beyond standard treatments into diet, stress, lifestyle and more.

“As I started going into Ayurvedic medicine and started seeing the enormous benefit that it had on chronic neurological conditions that I couldn't even treat, I just started going deeper and deeper into these ancient traditions,” Dr. Chaudhary says. “What we thought were metaphors, just poetic writings in these ancient texts, all of a sudden you realize that they were actually treatise on quantum biology, which is a field that has yet to really take root.”

She’s president and co-founder of Habit Change California and works with healthcare organizations on how to integrate allopathic, complementary, and alternative therapies.

Dr. Chaudhary branched out even further to lead an Ayurvedic center in India where she implements the use of sound medicine into the treatment of chronic disease and also studies ancient Siddha texts that have been hidden from public view for centuries.

Our conversation gets into the themes of her newest book, “Sound Medicine: How to Use the Ancient Science of Sound to Heal the Body and Mind.” We explore how much sound affects us, from our earliest memories to our dying breath, and even in our medical care.

“We actually are already using sound medicine,” Dr. Chaudhary says. “People just aren't recognizing it. Ultrasound is a form of sound medicine. Lithotripsy, which if anybody's had kidney stones and they have broken them using sound waves, that is a form of sound medicine.” There’s even an FDA-approved cosmetic procedure using sound to reverse aging.

In her book, she explains, “The fundamental difference between the use of sound in Western medicine and alternative medicine is that the former relies on ultrasonic and infrasonic sound waves—inaudible frequencies—while the latter draws on vibrations that we can actually hear.”

Dr. Chaudhary shares what she’s learned through Siddha medicine, a traditional system of healing that originated in South India that’s existed for over 8,000 years.

We also talk about how the medical community has long recognized the power of sound to affect the body—both in diagnostics and treatment. And how we can use mantras, positive self-talk, Nãda Yoga and more to channel the power of sound for healing.

BONUS: Downloadable information and instructions about the mantra Dr. Chaudhary sings during the episode.

Enjoy!

#70 Defeat Disease Using Diet with Dr. Terry Wahls - Podcast

After being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, Dr. Terry Wahls used diet and functional medicine to go from being bound to a wheelchair to being able to ride her bike to work. Dr. Wahls discusses her new book The Wahls Protocol: How I Beat Progressive MS Using Paleo Principles and Functional Medicine and why diet ranks so highly in not just treating illness, but preventing it. You’ll learn about the benefits of neuromuscular stimulation, how to eat using color, and how Terry is using diet to beat MS. Her story makes for one powerful podcast episode! After being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, Dr. Wahls began studying the latest research on autoimmune disease and brain biology. She decided to get her vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and essential fatty acids from the food she ate rather than relying on prescription drugs. Dr. Wahls adopted a nutrient-rich Paleo-style diet, gradually refining and integrating it with a regimen of neuromuscular stimulation. First, she walked slowly, then steadily, and then she eventually was able to bike eighteen miles in a single day. In November 2011, Dr. Wahls shared her remarkable recovery in a TEDx talk, Minding My Mitochondria, that immediately went viral. Now, in The Wahls Protocol, she shares the details of the protocol that allowed her to reverse many of her symptoms, get back to her life, and embark on a new mission: to share her findings and results with others suffering from the ravages of multiple sclerosis and other autoimmune conditions.
