Johnny Nelson MBE is a living testament to resilience and transformation.

Born in Sheffield and raised by a single mother and then his step-dad (who he calls his dad), Johnny's path was anything but certain.

He struggled in school and faced early setbacks, and a lot of losses - with his first three professional boxing matches ending in defeat.

But Johnny’s spirit was unbreakable. Mentored by the legendary Brendan Ingle, who had a profound impact on Johnny, he took those losses and turned them into fuel for a comeback like no other.

He went from being an underdog to becoming one of the most celebrated cruiserweight champions of all time.

In 1999, Johnny clinched his place in boxing history, capturing the WBO cruiserweight title and defending it a staggering 13 times over six years.

But his story isn’t just about championships and records; it’s about overcoming inner battles. Behind his fierce determination in the ring was a man fighting through self-doubt, the weight of public criticism, and the scars of childhood

Today, Johnny has channeled his experiences into helping others. As a Sky Sports boxing analyst, he brings insight to millions of fans, while his work with charities like MIND and his mentorship for young people and inmates demonstrate his heart for giving back.
