This is the difference between Autism and Aspergers: 1. IQ Score. People with Aspergers tend to have average to above average IQs, compared to that of a person with ‘classic autism’ who would typically have a below average IQ. 2. Verbal Communication. People with Autism tend to have little to no verbal communication skills and have difficulty talking. Children with Asperger’s syndrome tend to have a very good verbal skill set and can communicate verbal. 3. Vocabulary. People with Aspergers syndrome have a large vocabulary and have a strong use of words, compared to that of a person with ‘classic autism’ who typically have very limited vocabulary. 4. Day To Day Life Skills. A person with Asperger’s syndrome can learn day to day skills, like how to put on clothes and the importance of eating food. Learning how to go shopping for goods etc. Compared to a person who displays ‘classic autism’ typically they cannot learn these day to day life skills as easy and require additional life long support for these skills. 5. Speech Delay. Typically a person growing up with Aspergers Syndrome will not display any speech delay in early life. However a person with ‘classic autism’ will display large delay in learning speech. — Autism and Aspergers have distinct differences despite both being called as an autism spectrum disorder or condition. The autism and Aspergers test is basically the same, so what’s the difference between autism and Aspergers Both conditions have similarities like autism and anxiety as they both part of the autism spectrum, but they can display differently due to some factors you will learn about here. These signs of Aspergers Syndrome will help you identify autism in someone FAST: 1. Stimming. This is a self stimulatory behaviour behaviour that is presented like patterns of flapping hands, rocking back and forth or even humming a certain tone. Lot’s of people with Aspergers now use fidget spinners to stim. 2. Strict Routine. People with Aspergers syndrome, stick to a very ridged daily routine, and they love to stick to routines. This can be anything from how the get dressed in the morning, to how they watch TV. Routines are a very prominent sign. Also people with Aspergers do not like to devote from their routines. 3. Repetitive Eating (small food selection). Eating the same foods day in day out is a very common sign of Aspergers. Having a very small selection of foods that they enjoy is very common. 4. Echolalia. Repeating words from overs, or from TV or from movies is a form of what is called echolalia. This is very common sign of Aspergers, and also individuals with Aspergers tend to repeat their own sentences under their breath after they say their sentence 5. Issues With Socialising. Socialising is very difficult for people with Aspergers as the unspoken rules of social communication which are intuitive to people typical is not that obvious to someone with Aspergers. Poor social skills is a sign of Aspergers. 6. Sensory Sensitivity. Hyper or Hypo sensitivity to sensory input is a huge sign of Aspergers syndrome. This can range from being overly sensitive to things like sound, smell, lights and touch. To being under sensitive to these stimuli also. 7. Not Getting Jokes. Taking things literally is a massive sign of Aspergers this makes it difficult for a person with Aspergers to identify when someone is telling a joke or being sarcastic. This is a very common sign of Aspergers. Signs of Aspergers in adults can present itself in more than one way. So I have compiled this simple hack to make you able to help over come your sensory issues with some amazing practice examples that I have been able to use from an occupational therapist dealing with my SPD issues. If you are dealing with sensory processing disorder on your own this will be the most effective thing I can share with you. I have issues with sensory processing disorder my self and I have been to see an occupational therapist that helped me over come these symptoms and issues. It isn’t a cure for the issues but it is therapy to help manage sensory processing disorder symptoms. I found the tips super helpful and they actually worked to help me in my day to day Proprioception: This is where the where the issues are within Sensory processing disorder. The idea is that your muscles in your body need to be activated through deep muscle compression. This is the reason why lots of people with Autims / Aspergers Syndrome with SPD do not like soft touch. This is also the reason for not handling some challenging food textures well, causing all kids of autism meltdowns or upsets and spoiling what you are eating. Another issue this can make is losing focus during the day with distractions from lights or sounds. These can impact the day to day life of anyone with an autism spectrum disorder that is co morbid with Sensory Processing Disorder.
