018: Unpacking Your Subconscious with Cati Winkel

Today’s episode is all about the power of our subconscious. About 95% of our everyday actions and decisions are made by our subconscious mind, meaning we think we’re in control when we might actually be letting our trauma, emotions, and bad habits get in the way of our biggest desires. In this episode, Energetic Alignment Coach Cati Winkel shares insight on how our subconscious mind works so you can take steps to rewire your brain for a more fulfilling life.

Cati Winkel is a trained coach and healer, supporting her clients in transcending what keeps them blocked in the areas of self worth, relationships, money, and fulfillment. Her practice incorporates several healing modalities that override blocks at the subconscious, energetic and emotional levels. Cati is based in Overland Park, KS, is married with two girls, and her most recent guilty pleasure is watching the YouTube series Hot Ones.

Here are some key takeaways about our subconscious:

  • Our subconscious works like a database to save and filter information for when we need it later. About 95% of our everyday actions - our habits, routines, and choices - are driven by our subconscious.
  • When you start to feel out of control of your actions, or want to change a pattern of your behavior, ask yourself: “Where did I learn this behavior?” Think about experiences from childhood that could be the root cause so you can acknowledge it and begin to rewire new beliefs.
  • Your subconscious can create “conditions” that block your conscious brain from getting what you want. For example, you might say out loud “I deserve a vacation,” but your subconscious brain will say “I deserve a vacation… when I’ve worked to this point/ achieve this goal/ hit this milestone.” Those subconscious beliefs can keep you from ever actually taking that vacation!
  • Make a list of all the things you internally believe to be true. Then go through the list and unpack the things that aren’t actually true. For example “I cannot be successful until I have zero limiting beliefs,” might be something you believe but it is absolutely not true!
  • Taking action helps to anchor your subconscious mind and reinforce new thoughts and beliefs.

Welcome to the Wake Up Call Podcast with Alicia Hopkins (that’s me!). I work in corporate sales by day and am a personal development guru and Life Coach by night. My goal in this podcast is to share valuable and actionable tips on what I call the “Core Four” - mindfulness, movement, habits, and growth - so you can build a life that feels true to you. I will be interviewing people who have had a “wake up call” that their good-on-paper life wasn’t lighting them up, and what they did to change that. Join us every week for a new episode of the Wake Up Call Podcast with Alicia Hopkins!
