MTB’s unsung hero components

MTB’s unsung hero components

When we test a bike, it’s easy to give a nod of approval to a frame, fork, drivetrain or brake, but it’s often the finishing touches that really ‘make’ a bike.  In this episode, senior technical editor Tom Marvin, digital writer Nick Clark and video presenter Tom Law pick out the components that rarely hog the limelight, but really deserve some time in the spotlight. In turn, this is an appreciation of the rarely praised product manager – the person who’s ridden test mules and studied OEM spec offerings and picked some praiseworthy components. What next for Mavic? | BikeRadar speaks to co-CEO Jean-Michel Bourrelier

French marque Mavic has a storied history in pro cycling. The brand is famous for its establishment of the neutral service, supporting the Tour de France (among a host of other races), and has been a near-constant presence in the bike world for decades. Recently, Mavic hit difficulties after its sale by the Amer Sports Group, followed by receivership, before an 11th-hour buy-out by the Bourrelier Group. How Paris-Roubaix winning bikes have changed in a decade

How Paris-Roubaix winning bikes have changed in a decade

While Mathieu van der Poel recently secured his first Paris-Roubaix victory, the great Fabian Cancellara won the last of his three cobbles just over a decade ago.   Though the fundamentals remain the same, road bike tech has come a long way in the meantime.   Spartacus won aboard a Trek Domane 6-Series – an endurance road bike designed specifically to tame cobbles.   The Flying Dutchman, on the other hand, rode a Canyon Aeroad CFR – the same aero road bike he recently piloted to victory in Milan-San Remo, with only a few minor modifications.   With that in mind, devoted road bike nerds, Jack Luke, Simon von Bromley and Ashley Quinlan, sat down to compare the two bikes and discuss the major leaps in Roubaix-winning tech of the past 10 years.
