Welcome to episode 2527 of the Italian Wine Podcast from wine2wine Vinitaly Business Forum 2025, “Unearthing Italy’s hidden gems: sourcing & positioning small-batch grower wines” Speaker: Brian Larky, Moderator: Roberto Bruno This edition of wine2wine focuses on how local markets interpret global wine brands, and how producers and importers can adjust to a constantly evolving consumer base. The session provides an overview of the history of the US Italian wine import business vs where we are today and foresight as to where we may be going in the near future. Danilo also talks about the winery which was founded in 1897 and also buys grapes from 200 local small wine growers, thus keeping the local economy alive. Danilo and Monty also discuss Nino Negri’s top wines, Valtellina Superiore and the Sfursat (or Sforzato di Valtellina), as well as the top markets for the winery. Tune in to learn more about local food matches, such as the pizzoccheri pasta and local cheese types Casera and Bitto!
