Ep. 104: Love & Trade Talk Is In The Air

Ep. 104: Love & Trade Talk Is In The Air

Kick-off your week with a brand new episode of The DFO Rundown! Frank and Jason started off the podcast with some talk about the Super Bowl and Valentine's Day. There was also some talk about which one of them is going to cave to their families first and get a puppy.    From there they dug into some trade talk starting with the Colorado Avalanche, who are on a historic heater right now. Will they make a big splash? What are they looking for? Those are the questions they looked at. They also touched on one of the powerhouse teams in the Eastern Conference: the Carolina Hurricanes. Last deadline Don Waddell just missed on some deals and he could be hungry to make a big addition this year.   They also had an extended conversation about the values of depth players. There are some fascinating situations around the league and some players who some teams could view as their versions of Barclay Goodrow and Blake Coleman. Frank and Jason both shared some surprising names that could fetch first-round picks at the deadline. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Interview with Bayne Pettinger

Interview with Bayne Pettinger

Welcome to another Friday edition of The DFO Rundown with Frank Seravalli and Jason Gregor! On today's show, Frank and Jason were joined by NHLPA Certified Player Agent Bayne Pettinger. Bayne is the first openly gay NHL agent after coming out just over a year ago. He spoke about breaking barriers, the support around him, and his new non for profit with Brock McGillis. Bayne also discussed his career with Hockey Canada and his experiences at tournaments like the Olympics. Also on the show, two major NHL markets in Canada, the Montreal Canadiens and Edmonton Oilers, relieved their head coaches this past. Montreal opted to go with the inexperienced coach in Marty St Louis while Edmonton promoted their AHL head coach Jay Woodcroft. The most significant difference between the jobs is the pressure. Frank and Jason discussed the two new appointments. Finally, Liam Horrobin joined the guys for a new edition of Buy or Sell presented by DoorDash. Are the Edmonton Oilers a playoff team? Is Tomas Hertl staying with the San Jose Sharks? Is the Arizona Coyotes decision to play at Arizona State University actually a good idea? Frank and Jason answer those questions and more in that segment. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

All Star recap, trade chatter and Rocky Wirtz

All Star recap, trade chatter and Rocky Wirtz

Today on the DFO Rundown, Frank Seravalli and Jason Gregor dug into all the stories around the NHL as the league returns from its All Star break. First on the agenda was what went down in Vegas over the weekend, both good and bad. Trevor Zegras stole the show with another highlight reel move in shootout challenge, but it was enough to beat the hometown favourite Alex Pietrangelo who missed the net. They continued to discuss what went well and areas of improvement for All Star weekend.  The talk then moved on to the New York Rangers. The Rangers are in a great spot right now, sitting second in the Metropolitan Division, but what will they do at the deadline? Is it time for them to go all in and make a run for Lord Stanley? Finally, the Chicago Blackhawks were in the headlines again this past week. One piece of news was that former Boston Bruins and Edmonton Oilers General Manager Peter Chiarelli had been interviewed for the vacant position in Chicago. The second was a little more controversial after chairman Rocky Wirtz refused to answer questions about the sexual assault case in 2010.  You can hear all of that and more on episode 102 of The DFO Rundown! They also gave some takes on potential award races now that we've hit the halfway point of the season. The Hart Trophy has a lot of potential winners and it will be fascinating to see how things play out in the back half of the year. They wrapped it up with some talk about the Winnipeg Jets, who will need to really turn it up in the second half. Could they sell off some assets at the deadline? They also dug into the COVID/taxi squad situation and Frank talked about having to teach his kids how to ski. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
