About Supermarkets in Singapore

Today, I’d like to talk about supermarkets in Singapore.

When I think of supermarkets in Japan, I notice that music is often playing.

The same is true for drugstores.

They often have their own original theme song.

Of course, music is also playing in supermarkets in Singapore.

But many songs in Japanese supermarkets have lyrics.

Once you hear them, you somehow remember them.

Before you know it, you might start humming them.

Don Don Don Donki〜🎵

Like “Don Don Don Donki~ 🎵”.

In Donki in Singapore, their original song is playing too, right?

I think many people can even sing it outside the shop.

That’s how familiar the song is to people.

I thought this was a very interesting part of Japanese culture.

I feel that supermarkets in Singapore could copy this idea too.

Songs stay in your memory easily.

Next, I’d like to talk about apps.

Some supermarkets in Singapore have their own apps.

You can get discounts and collect points.

It’s very convenient.

In Japan, I feel that many shops still use point cards.

It’s not bad, but it can feel a little inconvenient.

I feel that we live in the age of smartphones.

With just one app,

you can pay and collect points.

Not needing a wallet is also nice.

And the fun part of a supermarket is the snack section.

There are many flavours you don’t see in Japan.

There are truffle-flavoured chips and salted egg ones.

Cup noodles are also different from those in Japan.

There are tom yum flavours and chilli crab flavours.

They are also perfect as souvenirs.

Drinks are interesting too.

In Japan, people often drink cocoa.

You want to drink it in the morning or when it’s cold.

But in Singapore, you see Milo more than cocoa.

And there are so many types.

It’s the same Milo, but there are different grades.

In Singapore it’s called “Milo,” but in Japan we say “Miro.”

A supermarket is not just a place to shop.

I think it’s a place where you can see a country’s lifestyle and originality.
