Ep24 - I used to wish people read more manga… but now I think differently

Anime is great, but I used to wish more people would read manga too.That’s how I used to feel.But now, my thinking has changed a little.

今日は、アニメとマンガについて話したいと思います。

Today, I’d like to talk about anime and manga.

みなさんは、アニメとマンガ、どちらが好きですか。

Which do you like more, anime or manga?

シンガポールでは、アニメの方が人気があると感じます。

In Singapore, I feel that anime is more popular.

私の周りでも、アニメの話をする人が多いです。

Many people around me talk about anime.

でも、私はマンガの方が好きです。

But I personally prefer manga.

もともと、私は本を読むのが好きです。

I’ve always liked reading books.

映像より、文字を読む方が落ち着きます。

I feel more comfortable reading than watching.

マンガは、作者が描いた絵をそのまま楽しめます。

With manga, you can enjoy the original drawings by the author.

そこがいいなと思います。

That’s something I really like.

それに、マンガは短い時間で読めます。

Also, manga is quick to read.

1話だけなら、数分で終わります。

One chapter can be finished in just a few minutes.

でも、アニメは少し長く感じることがあります。

But anime sometimes feels a bit long.

同じ話でも、時間がかかることがあります。

Even the same story can take more time.

子どものころは、私もアニメをよく見ていました。

When I was a child, I also watched a lot of anime.

だから、アニメが嫌いなわけではありません。

So it’s not that I dislike anime.

ただ、今はマンガの方が好きだと思います。

I just feel I prefer manga now.

そして、正直に言うと、

anime is great, but

シンガポールの人にもマンガを読んでほしいと思っていた時もありました。

there were times when I wished people in Singapore would read manga too.

英語版でもいいから、読んでほしいなと思っていました。

Even in English, I hoped they would give it a try.

でも、シンガポールに来て、少し考えが変わりました。

But after coming to Singapore, my thinking changed a little.

もしかすると、環境の影響もあるのかなと思います。

I feel it might be because of the environment.

日本では、本やマンガがとても身近です。

In Japan, books and manga are very familiar.

コンビニでもマンガ雑誌を買うことができます。

You can even buy manga magazines at convenience stores.

子どものころから、マンガを読むのが普通でした。

From childhood, reading manga was normal.

友達と貸し借りしたり、話をしたりしていました。

We shared manga and talked about it with friends.

その環境で育ったから、マンガが好きになった気がします。

I feel I grew to like manga because of that environment.

一方で、少し面白いことに気づきました。

On the other hand, I noticed something interesting.

アメリカのヒーローの作品については、

When it comes to American hero stories,

私はマンガではなく、映画を見ることが多いです。

I usually watch the movies, not the comics.

もともとマンガがあると思いますが、あまり読もうとは思いません。

I know there are original comics, but I don’t really feel like reading them.

映画で見るもの、というイメージがあるからだと思います。

I think I see them as something to watch as movies.

そう考えると、

Thinking about it like that,

日本の作品も、

for Japanese content too,

外国の人にとっては、

for people outside Japan,

アニメから入るのが自然なのかもしれません。

it might be natural to start with anime.

だから、アニメの方が人気になるのも分かる気がします。

So it makes sense that anime is more popular.

マンガとアニメを比べているというより、

Rather than comparing the two,

そもそもアニメしか知らないということもあるのかもしれません。

it might be that people only know anime.

日本のアニメは、毎年たくさん出ています。

In Japan, many anime are released every year.

全部見るのは大変なくらいです。

There are so many that it’s hard to watch them all.

だから、アニメだけでも十分楽しめます。

So you can enjoy a lot just with anime.
