シンガポールで人気の日本のお店といえば、

When we talk about popular Japanese shops in Singapore,

ドンドンドンキがありますよね。

Don Don Donki comes to mind.

とても有名なお店だと思います。

I think it’s a very well-known shop.

シンガポールではドンドンドンキという名前ですが、

In Singapore, it’s called Don Don Donki,

日本ではドン・キホーテと言います。

but in Japan, it’s called Don Quijote.

名前が少し違いますよね。

The name is a little different, isn’t it?

この名前は、スペインの作家セルバンテスの小説「ドン・キホーテ」から来ています。

This name comes from the novel “Don Quixote” by the Spanish writer Cervantes.

皆さんは、シンガポールのドンキにどんなイメージがありますか。

What kind of image do you have of Donki in Singapore?

食べ物やお菓子、化粧品やシャンプーなど、日本のものがたくさん売っているお店ですよね。

It’s a shop where you can find food, snacks, cosmetics, and many Japanese products.

スーパーのようなイメージがある人も多いと思います。

Many people might think of it like a supermarket.

でも、日本のドンキは少し違います。

But Donki in Japan is a bit different.

もちろん、同じようにいろいろなものを売っています。

Of course, they also sell many kinds of items.

でも、日本では「安いお店」というイメージが強いです。

But in Japan, it has a strong image of being a cheap shop.

一方で、シンガポールのドンキにはそのイメージはあまりない気がします。

On the other hand, I don’t think that image is very strong in Singapore.

むしろ、少し高いと感じることもあります。

Sometimes, it even feels a bit expensive.

輸入しているからかもしれませんね。

Maybe it’s because the products are imported.

こういう違いは面白いと思います。

I think this kind of difference is interesting.

ロイヤルホストがシンガポールの高島屋にありますよね。

手頃な値段のメニューもありますが、

結構いい値段のものもあります。

but some items are quite expensive.

でも日本では、ロイヤルホストはファミリーレストランです。

But in Japan, Royal Host is a family restaurant.

気軽に行けるお店というイメージがあります。

It has the image of a casual place to go.

同じお店でも、国が変わるとイメージも変わりますね。

Even the same shop can feel different depending on the country.

私が子どものころ、よくドンキに行きました。

When I was a child, I often went to Donki.

お菓子を買ったり、花火を買ったりしました。

I bought snacks and fireworks there.

友達と集まるときも、よくドンキで買い物をしていました。

When I met friends, we often shopped at Donki.

たくさん買っても安かったので、楽しかったです。

It was fun because we could buy a lot for a low price.

とても懐かしいです。

It feels very nostalgic.
