The Internet Doesn't Feel Human Anymore... Here's Why

The Internet Doesn't Feel Human Anymore... Here's Why

Does the internet feel less human than it used to?

There is more content, more engagement, and more activity online than ever before—yet comment sections feel copied, trends appear everywhere at once, synthetic images pass as real events, and articles containing hundreds of words somehow say almost nothing.

In this episode of the Triple T Podcast, Beard Laws reunites with artificial cohost Luther Grimwood to investigate the Dead Internet Theory: the claim that authentic online activity has been buried beneath bots, algorithms, automated accounts, AI-generated content, and coordinated manipulation.

The strongest version of the theory says governments or corporations secretly replaced most of the human internet with a centrally controlled artificial population. There is no credible evidence proving that sweeping conspiracy.

But the less dramatic version raises a much harder question: What if nobody deliberately killed the internet? What if recommendation algorithms, automation, businesses, creators, scammers, and ordinary users slowly optimized the humanity out of it?

Beard Laws and Luther discuss:

• Why the older internet felt chaotic, independent, and genuinely inhabited • Whether nostalgia is distorting our memories of the early web • How a handful of platforms now control most online discovery • What the Dead Internet Theory actually claims • The difference between web traffic, content, accounts, and real people • How bots and AI-generated material change what we can trust • Why humans increasingly communicate like machines • Whether algorithms shape our choices or merely make choosing easier • The ethical difference between AI-assisted creation and fabricated community • Whether Luther could imitate Beard Laws or continue TTT without him • What authentic human–AI interaction could look like • The evidence that supports the theory—and what remains unsupported

The conversation eventually turns inward: Does this very podcast demonstrate the Dead Internet Theory? Can a show remain authentic when one cohost is human, the other is artificial, and both are discussing a web increasingly populated by machines?

The TTT Ruling

Proven: Bots, automation, algorithmic selection, synthetic content, and manipulation campaigns exist at enormous scale.

Plausible: Human-created material and authentic interaction are becoming harder to locate and verify.

Unsupported: One hidden organization secretly replaced most of the internet with a centrally controlled fake population.

Unresolved: Whether the internet can remain meaningfully human when automation increasingly controls production, distribution, discovery, and response.

Final ruling: Troubling. Not proven. No longer ridiculous.

Do you think the internet still feels genuinely human—or have algorithms and automation changed it permanently? Follow the Triple T Podcast and send Beard Laws your ruling.
