Ep. 118 - Healing Shame, Finding Yourself, and Redefining Fatherhood with Eric Pellini

Ep. 118 - Healing Shame, Finding Yourself, and Redefining Fatherhood with Eric Pellini

In this episode of the Finding Purpose Podcast, Adam sits down with Eric Pellini—coach, speaker, creator of the Dojo Method, and creator of The Liminal Father—for a deeply personal conversation about childhood trauma, addiction, shame, spirituality, fatherhood, identity, and personal transformation.

Eric traces much of his journey back to childhood, when his parents' divorce changed the way he experienced himself and the world around him. What followed were years of searching for safety, identity, validation, and belonging through sports, achievement, relationships, and other forms of coping.

After pursuing broadcast journalism, Eric pivoted into fitness and built a career around physical performance. But chronic pain, relationship struggles, addiction, and the constant pressure to perform eventually forced him to look beyond the physical and confront the emotional patterns underneath.

In one of the most vulnerable moments of the conversation, Eric opens up about pornography addiction, the shame surrounding it, and finally sharing the truth with the woman who would become his wife. Adam and Eric explore why shame thrives in secrecy, the difference between guilt and shame, and how self-compassion can help us heal the parts of ourselves we've tried to hide.

They also discuss spirituality, surrender, trusting something greater than ourselves, and learning to recognize the patterns shaping our identity.

Fatherhood has brought another evolution to Eric's journey. Through The Liminal Father, he is creating space for honest conversations about modern fatherhood, men's mental health, emotional overwhelm, marriage, masculinity, identity, and the struggles many fathers experience but rarely discuss openly.

At its core, this conversation is about healing the past, breaking old patterns, and intentionally becoming the person you want to be.
