Soft Settling: How to Pour Honey Into Your Nervous System

Soft Settling: How to Pour Honey Into Your Nervous System

Hello, and welcome. I'm Julia Cartwright, and I'm so glad you're here. It's early Friday morning, and if you're anything like most of us, your nervous system is probably already sending out little distress signals about the week ahead. Maybe your shoulders are creeping up toward your ears, or your mind is spinning through a to-do list that seems to have a life of its own. Today, we're going to hit pause on all of that. Not forever, just for the next few minutes. This is our time to practice what I call soft settling, and I promise you, it's going to change how you move through your day. So find a comfortable seat. This could be on the floor, in a chair, or even lying down if that's what your body needs right now. There's no wrong choice here. Let your shoulders drop away from your ears. Good. Now, I want you to take one really long, slow breath in through your nose. Feel that cool air moving in, awakening your body. And now exhale through your mouth like you're gently fogging up a mirror. Let it all out. One more time. Inhale calm. Exhale tension. Beautiful. Now here's what we're going to do. I want you to imagine that relaxation is like a warm liquid honey slowly dripping down from the crown of your head. As I guide you through each part of your body, picture this golden warmth trickling down, loosening everything in its path. There's no effort required here. You're not forcing anything. You're simply noticing and allowing. Start with your forehead and the space between your eyebrows. Let that honey settle there. Feel any tightness just melting away. Now move down to your jaw. So many of us hold stress here. Release it. Let your mouth soften. Your tongue can rest gently on the floor of your mouth. Neck and shoulders next. That's right, that warm honey is flowing down, releasing everything you've been carrying. Your chest, your belly, your lower back. Notice how with each breath, your body sinks a little deeper into wherever you're sitting. There's nowhere to go, nothing to do. Just this. Just you, breathing, relaxing, being. When your mind wanders, and it will, that's not a failure. That's just what minds do. Gently bring it back to the sensation of that warm honey, that ease spreading through you. As you move through your day, carry this feeling with you. The next time you notice tension creeping in, remember that honey. Remember that you have access to this ease whenever you need it. Thank you so much for joining me today on Relaxation. If this practice served you, please subscribe wherever you listen, and share this with someone who could use a little softness in their day.
