John 12:20-36 | A troubled heart

John 12:20-36 | A troubled heart

What do we do when our hearts are troubled?

In John 12, Jesus knows that the cross is drawing near. He understands the suffering that awaits him, and he makes a remarkable admission: “Now my soul is troubled.” Yet Jesus does not run from the Father’s will. Instead, he prays, “Father, glorify your name.”

In this message from John 12:20–36, we discover what Jesus teaches us about facing fear, suffering, uncertainty and the cost of following God. Through the picture of a grain of wheat falling into the ground and dying, Jesus reveals the surprising pathway to true life: surrender.

The cross shows us that God’s greatest purposes can sometimes be accomplished through our darkest moments. Jesus’ troubled heart did not lead him away from his mission—it led him to trust his Father and move toward the cross for us.

When our own hearts are troubled, we can look to Jesus. We may not understand what God is doing, but we can trust the One who gave himself for us.
