Making History: Inside the elite journey of Sophia Diaz and Jahzara Ranger

This week we are excited to be joined by two Michigan Wolverines who recently qualified for the World Championships this fall.

We have Sophia Diaz, a two-time NCAA individual qualifier, who recently helped the Dominican Republic make history by earning a bronze medal at the Central American and Caribbean Games. Joining her is Jahzara Ranger, who earned First Team All-Big Ten honors last season and won two bronze medals for Jamaica at the Central American and Caribbean Games—one in the all-around and one on vault.

For both JZ and Sophia, this was only their second elite competition, and they are already accomplishing big things, including qualifying for the World Championships this October — something that an active female gymnast at the University of Michigan has never done before.

Today, they join us to discuss their transition to elite gymnastics, what it means to represent their heritage on the international stage, their future goals, and much more.
