Stress Relief: Become the Sieve, Not the Bucket

Stress Relief: Become the Sieve, Not the Bucket

Hey there, I'm Julia Cartwright, and I'm so glad you're here. Whether you're catching this first thing in the morning or squeezing it in between a million things, I see you. And I want you to know that the fact that you're choosing to pause, even for just a few minutes, is already an act of self-compassion. So let's take this moment together. Go ahead and find a comfortable seat, somewhere you can just be for the next few minutes. It doesn't have to be fancy. Your couch, a chair, even your car works. The only requirement is that you're willing to show up for yourself right now. Let's start by taking three intentional breaths together. Breathe in through your nose for a count of four, hold it for four, and exhale through your mouth like you're fogging up a mirror. Again. In through the nose. Hold. And out through the mouth. One more time. Feel that? That's your nervous system starting to settle down. Now I want to guide you through something I call the "Stress Sieve." Think of stress like water pouring into a bucket. Our job isn't to stop the water, because honestly, life keeps flowing. Our job is to become the sieve that lets it flow right through us. Place your hands gently on your thighs. As you breathe in, imagine that stress, that tension, that weight you're carrying, is entering your body like dark water. Don't fight it. Just notice it. Where does it live? Your shoulders? Your chest? Your jaw? Now here's the magic part. As you exhale, imagine that dark water draining right through you like you're made of the gentlest mesh. It passes through without getting stuck. With each breath out, you're not fighting stress, you're simply letting it move through you and away. Continue this rhythm for the next few minutes. In with what is. Out with what doesn't serve you. And if your mind wanders, which it absolutely will, that's not failure. That's just your mind being a mind. Gently bring your attention back to the breath. Keep breathing. In and out. Letting stress be water, and letting yourself be the sieve. When you're ready to return, take one more full breath and slowly open your eyes. Here's what I want you to carry into your day: the next time you feel that stress tightening up, pause and ask yourself, am I resisting this, or can I let it flow? That simple question changes everything. Thank you so much for practicing with me today on Stress Relief.
