007: How our Values Affect Our Priorities with Tyler Foley

007: How our Values Affect Our Priorities with Tyler Foley

“It's our values that drive our decisions for our priorities.” -Tyler Foley We're often talking about our priorities in life, but what about the things we value?—the things that make us happy, the things that make us feel fulfilled, and the things that bring us joy. How can we be sure we're making the right choices for ourselves? The key is on how we set and solidify our values. The more we value something, the more likely it will be a priority for us, and the better we’re going to handle it.  In this episode, I was honored to sit across lifelong actor, speaker, trainer, and author of The Power to Speak Naked, Sean Tyler Foley. At an early age, Tyler discovered that there are two sounds in our world- the one we so seek and the one we want to run away from. This helped him to follow a certain path, but more importantly, to set values that would push him closer to the sound he wants to follow.  Tune in as Tyler and I talk about the power we have to speak our voice and how we can use our voice to stand up for what we believe in. We also discussed how our values can lead to monetization, how we can help our children to shape their own values, how men can build each other up, and how understanding what money really is can lead to true abundance.   Connect with The Modern Man: Website Facebook Twitter Instagram YouTube   Highlights:  01:45 Appreciate the Art!  05:22 Two Types of Sound 10:50 The Connection Between Values and Priorities 16:57 Men Build Each Other Up 20:56 Money— The Currency of Energy Exchange 28:13 Kids Reflect Who You Are as a Father 37:02 Recap

006: Unlock the Secrets of the Brain— How to Get the Results You Want with Liam Naden

006: Unlock the Secrets of the Brain— How to Get the Results You Want with Liam Naden

“Not only is the brain the most powerful machine that exists, but it will literally give you everything you want if you know how to use it.” -Liam Naden The human brain is much more than just a collection of neurons firing away at each other— it is also the one responsible for what we do and how we do it. The way we think and act is largely determined by our brains' ability to process information in a way that allows us to identify patterns, make predictions based on those patterns, and then act accordingly. The fact that this happens is mind-blowing—but the fact that we can control our own minds is even more incredible!  In this episode, Ted sits with speaker, writer, teacher, and researcher Liam Naden. Liam has been researching how to improve quality of life—our decision-making, problem-solving,and generally how we live life. He discovered that the key to unlocking our full potential is in the proper understanding of how the brain works and how to use it the right way.  Listen in as Ted and Liam discuss how powerful the brain really is and how we can harness this power to manifest what we want in life. They also talk about the right and wrong ways of using the brain, the four parts of the brain and how each one functions, the truth about goal-setting, and how to move past the fear and towards thriving mode.    Connect The Modern Man: Website Facebook Twitter Instagram YouTube   Highlights:  01:28 It’s All in the Brain 04:12  The Wrong and Right Way to Use Your Brain 08:29 The 4 Parts of the Brain and Their Function  17:21 Fear Does Not Motivate 22:54 The Truth About Goal-Setting 28:44 Problems Cause Harm 32:05 The Way to Switch Your Brain Quickly

005: Finding Power When You Feel Powerless with Jim Barnard

005: Finding Power When You Feel Powerless with Jim Barnard

"Own reality. Your reality is far from your expectations" -Jim Barnard   Feeling powerless is one of those feelings that we never want to experience. It leads us to an expectation gap, where our reality isn’t what we wanted or hoped for. It’s a hard place to be especially if something or someone important to us is at stake.   But feeling powerless, sometimes, can be a powerful motivator. It can force us to take action and lead us to new opportunities. This episode is a reminder that although our current reality falls short of expectations, we can still make the best out of it, and even be a guiding light to others.    This week, Coach Jim Barnard joins me in an inspiring conversation about not giving up and finding courage despite adversities. Jim suffered from depression when his parents divorced. Just when he thought he found healing, his courage and faith would soon be tested once again when his wife Alicia suffered a mysterious disease. Seeing his wife wasting away and the insurance company withdrawing their support, Jim felt helpless and could only hold his wife’s hand. What helped Jim overcome his situation?    Tune in as Jim and I talk about finding power when we feel powerless, owning our reality, showing up consistently, managing our fear of expectations, and serving others along the way.      Connect The Modern Man: Website Facebook Twitter Instagram YouTube   Highlights:  01:19 The Expectation Gap 07:19 When Men Feel Powerless 12:38 The Power of Showing Up 21:42 First Step: Own Your Reality 25:55 How to Manage the Fear of Expectations 28:38 Last Step: Serve Others

004: Transformation in Three Simple Words with Coach Michael Taylor

004: Transformation in Three Simple Words with Coach Michael Taylor

“There's no shame in seeking support, understanding that you don't have to carry the work weight of the world on your shoulders. You're not alone… But it's a matter of you being courageous enough to reach out.” -Coach Michael Taylor Toxic masculinity is a term used to describe the way in which men are taught to act in society, and how that can affect their lives. In a society that tells men they're the "breadwinners," and that they should be able to handle everything on their own, it's no wonder so many men are struggling. Although this mentality has been deeply engraved in our society, we can still change it with three simple words: "I Need Help." And while this phrase may sometimes feel like it's just an empty way to say you're vulnerable and want another person to take care of things for you, there's actually a lot more to it than that. "I need help" means that we recognize that something has come up in our life that is bigger than we are—and it also means that we know what it feels like to be overwhelmed by something.  In this episode, I interview Coach Michael Taylor on how powerful these three words can be in transforming men’s lives. We also discuss the five illusions of manhood from Michael’s book, A New Conversation with Men, and how to shift these illusions to what’s real. 003: Chasing Advancement— The Secret to Easier Success with Victor Manzo

“The easiest way to be successful is to have gratitude every day.” -Dr. Victor Manzo   While many people see the road to success as paved with money and fame, it is not necessarily true. While it in itself isn't wrong, having the wrong reason behind this chase leads to much pain and emptiness. If we don’t have the right motivation behind our pursuits, we might find ourselves getting further away from what we really want—and closer to feeling like nothing will ever be good enough.   So how can we make our path to success easier and more fulfilling? It all comes down to one simple question: "What do YOU want?"   In this episode, Ted sits with Mindset Coach, speaker, and author, Dr. Vic Manzo. Dr. Vic shares how assessing our goals can make a difference in our outcomes, how to differentiate between fulfillment and survival, and how our mindset can lead us to the best we can be. Tune in as Ted and Dr. Vic reveal the secret to maximizing results, managing time, and removing the resistance that hinders growth.       Connect The Modern Man: Website Facebook Twitter Instagram YouTube   Highlights:  01:37 Healing at the Lowest Level to Make the Biggest Impact 06:13 Mindset— The Power to Choose the Best That You Can Be 10:01 The Other Side of Uncertainty 14:05 Fulfillment vs Survival 18:54 Compounding Our Efforts to Maximize Return  24:30 Time Management is Energy Management  28:16 Remove the Resistance

002: Here’s To Fear! Ft. Ben Harris

“Fear is an invitation to your next level of expansion.” -Ben Harris I don’t know if you agree that fear is a feeling that we don’t always like, but it’s a feeling that can also be very useful.  Fear is just a feeling, and it's not a bad one. It means that something is going on in our life, and we're not sure how to handle it yet. And that's okay! It's a sign that we're about to do something extraordinary.  Our guest, Ben Harris is known as “The Fear Guy” for an uncommon reason— he follows it! You may wonder why someone would want to follow such an uncomfortable feeling. Well, let’s hear it from the man himself!   Listen in as I interview Ben about what is on the other side of fear. But first, what really is fear? Is fear even real? How does fear make us delusional and irrational? How can we say that fear stems from love? What is the right way to approach fear? And lastly, what possibilities are opened for us if we follow fear instead of avoiding it? 001: How to Be a Father- Answers and Tips for Great Fatherhood Ft. Kendall Smith

001: How to Be a Father- Answers and Tips for Great Fatherhood Ft. Kendall Smith

“Every guy has the opportunity to be a great father. Just know you're going to be a little freaked out first. But you're a student again for the first time and it's important that you have to learn. You will make mistakes along the way but admitting to them  will make you a great parent.” Welcome to the first official episode of The Modern Man Podcast— Connecting Men in Pursuit of Their Potential! For this special episode, I want to talk about a topic that most of us have been asking for so long- how to be a father. Having a child does not necessarily make a man a father. To be a "father", one must have the courage and the heart for it. It's a lifetime commitment and a legacy. A lot of first-time fathers are afraid that they will not be able to handle the responsibilities of fatherhood. This can be a major source of stress for some men, especially for the father who has to figure out how to take care of his newborn while also figuring out how to be there for his wife. And it's even harder if he did not have a father figure to look up to while growing up. It's important to remember though that being a great father does not mean perfection, rather having the willingness to spend time, grow patience, and make a dedication to becoming one. This week, I got to sit down with Kendall Smith, the author of Rookie Father: A Playbook for Men Experiencing Fatherhood for the First Time. Raised by a single mother, Kendall did not have an immediate male role model. But this did not stop him from becoming the great father that he is today. He learned by observing other people, talking to them, and discovering things as he became a father himself. Kendall and I discuss how fathers and fathers-to-be can overcome the challenge of time management, handling finances, setting priorities, building a strong bond with their kids, and working as a team with their spouses, even if they are not together anymore. And, more importantly. for men who are not yet fathers like me, how do we know if we are ready to take on that role? Kendall also answers that and more!    Fellas, please enjoy this episode of The Modern Man!   #Letsgrow Connect The Modern Man: Website Facebook Twitter Instagram YouTube   Highlights:  02:20 Entering Fatherhood 06:52 Fatherhood and Time Management  11:31 How to Manage Finances 14:51 It’s YOUR Legacy 18:23 Meeting the Challenge of Co-Parenting  21:02  How to Support Your Spouse 23:38 Setting Priorities Straight 25:40 Are Ready to Be a Father?

195: No Rain No Rainbows Final Episode: Is This the End?

195: No Rain No Rainbows Final Episode: Is This the End?

“This is not the end, it’s just a pivot.” -Andrej Suttles We’re finally here—- the final episode of the No Rain No Rainbows Podcast. Is this really the end??  The straightforward answer to that is NO! Of course not.  So there’s really no reason to get sad. We aren't leaving you high and dry here! For the past few episodes, Ted has been talking about an upcoming change in the No Rain No Rainbows Podcast. And if you’ve been following Ted for some time now, you know that he also runs the brand The Modern Man and the podcast of the same name. Both No Rain No Rainbows and The Modern Man are close to his heart. But there comes a time for all of us to choose between two things dear to our hearts— and it will always be a tough choice.  When it comes to things like this, we all want to make the right decision. But how do you know what the right decision is? How do you know whether or not it's okay to leave one thing behind in order to pursue something else? And what if they're both things you want so badly? Who is better qualified to have this tough conversation with today than the one who was with us since episode 1— the genius on all of the behind-the-scenes production and the man himself, Andrej Suttles of Suttlesolutions Media, LLC!  Listen in as Ted and Andrej dive more into the reasons why Ted chose to focus on The Modern Man, what went into it, what we can expect regarding these changes, and the lessons we learned along the way. They also talk about the common pitfalls that can lead us astray when trying to decide what's best for ourselves, how to avoid them, and how to find our happy balance. Don’t miss out on this last episode as Ted and Andrej share words of encouragement for anyone who wants to overcome the fear of chasing after their own rainbows.  It's been a great ride! We’ve come close to 200 episodes and it still feels like a dream that we were able to go this far. The success of this show is all thanks to you and the love you’ve shown through the rainbows and the rains. We hope you'll continue following us and The Modern Man as we continue to evolve over time!  And remember….  If you ever find yourself at crossroads like this one, remind yourself that whatever decision you make, there's no way it'll be wrong. Because the truth is, there isn't just one correct answer. Don't worry about making any mistakes or doing anything wrong. Everything will work out fine— as long as you do what makes sense for YOU. “It's not the final chapter, it's just the current chapter because you have a big book to write.” -Ted Phaeton So stick around! #Let'sGrow   Connect with Ted:  Website Facebook  Twitter Instagram     LinkedIn YouTube   The Modern Man Website Facebook Twitter Instagram YouTube Highlights:  01:31 Meet the Man- Andrej Suttles 05:39 Lessons From Episode 1 and Moving Forward 09:57 Quite a Journey!  12:25 Finding Your Happy Balance 16:12 It’s Not the End; It’s a Pivot 21:06 Jump Right Into It!
