Finding My Way — A Torah Teaching for Rosh Hashana (Parashat Nitzavim- Torah and Stillness)

Finding My Way — A Torah Teaching for Rosh Hashana (Parashat Nitzavim- Torah and Stillness)

How do you find your path when there is no map? This week's parasha, Nitzavim, is always read the Shabbat before Rosh Hashana. That's not a coincidence. Standing at the threshold of a new year, the Torah opens with: Atem nitzavim hayom kulchem — You are standing today. All of you.In this teaching I bring a passage from the Mei HaShiloach — Rabbi Mordechai Yosef of Izbica — as I have learned it through my teacher Rabbi Yaakov Varshevski and his book Etzot MiMei HaShiloach. Four mysterious images from Proverbs: the eagle, the serpent, the ship, and the fire between two people. Four elements — air, earth, water, fire — each one can heal you and direct you, or hurt you and pull you off course. As we stand at the threshold of 5787, the question is: which forces are carrying you forward — and which ones need your attention before the year turns? The guided practice for this teaching is in the next video.
