13: I Didn't Know How to Receive Without Earning It

13: I Didn't Know How to Receive Without Earning It

At 2:00 in the morning, I woke up crying.

I walked into the bathroom and heard myself say something I had never let myself say before:

"I can't hold all of this anymore."

For years, I thought I knew how to slow down. I had done the healing work. I knew how to regulate my nervous system.

But I was still holding everyone.

My business. My clients. My team. My family. My husband. Everyone's needs, emotions, and experiences.

And underneath all of it was a belief I didn't fully see until recently:

I didn't know how to receive without earning it first.

In this episode, I'm sharing what happened when I finally hit my limit, the quiet way hustling can show up as overgiving and overholding, and what I'm learning about letting myself be supported simply because I exist.

We'll talk about why slowing down can feel so uncomfortable, how childhood conditioning teaches us to connect worth with productivity, and the difference between truly receiving and simply accepting what someone gives you.

If you feel guilty when you rest, overgive to the people you love, or always feel like you should be doing more, this one is for you.

And I'll leave you with a question I've been sitting with myself:

Who are you when you no longer have to be the one who makes everything happen?

Your practice this week:

When you hear that voice saying you should be doing something, stop and ask: is this my body, or is this just the voice? If it is your body, breathe, notice where it is stuck, name the sensations, and let the emotion move. If it is just the voice, go nourish yourself instead. When someone does something for you, stop, look at them, and tell them exactly what it meant to you. And ask yourself the magic wand question: if I came from a place of peace, what would I really choose? If nothing comes, write down one thing you already know you do not want to hold anymore.

For the moments when the urge is coming from your body, the Cultivating Safety meditation is the practice I still come back to myself. It helps you slow down, come back into your body, and feel safe from the inside.
