The Four Four Six Reset: Your Portable Calm Button

The Four Four Six Reset: Your Portable Calm Button

Hey there, I'm Julia Cartwright, and I'm so glad you're here with me today. Whether you're starting your Tuesday morning or stealing a few minutes somewhere between back-to-back meetings, I want you to know that showing up for yourself right now, in this moment, is exactly what you need. Stress has a way of sneaking into our shoulders, our breath, and our thoughts, doesn't it? Today, we're going to gently invite it to step aside. Let's begin by finding a comfortable seat, somewhere you won't be interrupted for the next few minutes. Your feet can be flat on the ground, your spine long but not rigid. Think of yourself like a tree—rooted and stable, but with branches that sway in the breeze. There's no perfect posture here, just honest presence. Now, let's wake up your senses. Notice three things you can see around you right now. Don't label them or judge them, just observe. Maybe it's the way light hits a wall, or the color of your coffee cup. Good. Now take a deep breath in through your nose, and as you exhale, imagine you're releasing something you don't need. Do that three times. Here's what we're going to do together. I'm going to guide you through what I call the Release and Replace technique, because stress loves to linger, and we're going to show it the door. Start by breathing in slowly for a count of four. Feel your belly expand, your ribs widen. You're filling yourself with calm. Now hold that breath for four counts. This is where the magic happens, where your nervous system gets the memo that you're safe. Then exhale for six counts. This longer exhale signals to your body that it's time to relax. The extended exhale is key, so lean into it. Repeat this cycle five more times. In for four, hold for four, out for six. As you breathe, imagine tension leaving your body like water draining from a tub. Notice where you hold stress. Your jaw? Your hands? Gently release it. Here's the Replace part. With each exhale, imagine breathing out worry, and with each inhale, breathe in one word that serves you today. Maybe it's calm, capable, or enough. Whatever resonates, let it in. As we wrap up, bring your awareness back to your body, your breath, your heartbeat. You've done something beautiful here. You've pressed pause on the chaos. Today, whenever you feel stress creeping in, return to this breath. Four in, four hold, six out. It's your personal reset button, available anywhere, anytime. Thank you so much for joining me on Stress Relief. I hope you carry this practice with you. Please subscribe so we can explore more ways to bring calm into your life. Take care of yourself, friend.
