How To Let Go Of Excuses | Maxwell Ivey Ep. 131

How To Let Go Of Excuses | Maxwell Ivey Ep. 131

“Never make excuses. Your friends don’t need them and your foes won’t believe them.” John Wooden Quick question... Why are you not where you want to be in life right now? (If you are where you want to be... Why did you stop?) I ask this question because, if you're like me, the first thing that comes to mind is a list of excuses. So many answers will cover time constraints, kids, bad bosses, and missed opportunities. If we really analyze it, they're all excuses. I don't say this to be insensitive. I say this to offer a reality check. When everything is said and done, we are the ones in control of our lives and what we do. Despite the circumstances we find ourselves in, it's on us to rise above and push forward. In order to eliminate excuses and take control of our lives, we must first decide who holds the reins. (That's you by the way...) Perspective is also huge! If we choose to only see the bad, the bad is what we get. The same can be said for the positive. If we train ourselves to see the good in everything, suddenly what we get is good. This only happens with practice and intention. Very seldom do we stumble on this mindset ourselves. My guest today knows all about overcoming excuses. Maxwell Ivey is internationally known as The Blind Blogger. He started losing his vision to retinitis pigmentosa at an early age and became legally blind by junior high school and totally blind by the time he graduated from college. Maxwell's story includes working with his family's carnival business, selling surplus rides for other vendors, teaching himself how to code, starting his own podcast, writing books, losing over 250 pounds, and more. If you need inspiration and drive, Maxwell is the man to talk to. A journey like Maxwell's doesn't come without a sense of humor, which you'll also pick up on VERY quickly throughout this episode. How To Escape Corporate America | Catherine Cantey Ep. 130

How To Escape Corporate America | Catherine Cantey Ep. 130

"I grew up thinking that corporate America was my destination. Then I got there, and I was making the money I wanted to make, but I just wasn't happy." Lauren Gibbs What if the way out was by going deeper? This is not an episode about how bad corporate America is. In fact, it's the exact opposite. Corporate America can offer countless lessons, opportunities, and experiences. The true challenge is understanding the power and potential at our fingertips. There is so much we can learn from the 9-5. When we commit to the role we're in, we start to find opportunities and lessons in places we never thought to look. That chance to take on new responsibilities, oversee, and manage a team might actually be the experience we need for the business venture we plan on running in the future. You see... We spend so much time eyeballing the door out that we forget to think about the ladder right beside us. What if instead of trying to run out the door, we try to climb the ladder? Climbing the corporate ladder is the perfect practice for running a business. The higher we go up, the more we get to see the inner workings of a successful operation. Imagine the lessons we can learn from a company that has already figured out how to be profitable? Another added bonus is the number of connections we can make and the network we can build in the process of moving up the corporate ladder. Once we're high enough to enjoy the view, we can take that leap, spread our wings, and learn how to fly. My guest today is Catherine Cantey. Before helping high potential managers turn into senior leaders, Catherine spent 20 years building other businesses and climbing up the corporate ladder. Her experience in banking has allowed her to not only learn the importance of listening but also close the broadband gap in rural communities with a $12.1 million public-private investment journey. You're going to want to grab a pen and paper for today's episode as we discuss: The Importance of Results Finding a Mentor and Sponsor Building Your Network Celebrating The Little Wins Listening and Following Up Be Sure To Learn More About Catherine Here: Website: https://www.catherinecantey.com/ Course: https://www.catherinecantey.com/course LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/catherinecantey/ If you enjoyed this episode, I encourage you to join our Patreon Page and help us continue to bring you more great content. First Aid For Mental Health | Clint Adams Ep. 129

First Aid For Mental Health | Clint Adams Ep. 129

“There is hope, even when your brain tells you there isn’t.” John Green There is so much that can happen in the space between our ears. A lot of it can be great, exciting, and enjoyable at times... But sadly it can also be a scary, dark, and unbearable experience.  That’s when we need to reach out and ask for help. Unfortunately, so few do. There has been a stigma surrounding mental health that often causes people to feel shame around it. The “Man Up,” or “Don’t Quit,” culture we often find ourselves in, doesn’t really facilitate an environment to share the things that leave a lasting mark on us.  So how can we change that resistance to ask for help? How can we prevent the mind from spiraling in the wrong direction, whether it be for ourselves or for others? My guest today, Clint Adams is an Author and Suicide Prevention Advocate. He’s a former Victorian police officer who studied psychology, rehabilitation, and counseling. His answer would be a combination of techniques, practices, habits, and environment. By focusing on these, we can change the trajectory of the mind and hopefully prevent things from getting out of hand.  These tools don’t just apply to ourselves. They apply to others as well. Hop into today’s episode and join us as we discuss: Creating the space for others to share Focusing on our own mental health to help others with theirs Not being stuck in your identity  Isolation as a choice vs. sentence. How To Become Limitless In Life & In Business | Julian Hayes II Ep.127

How To Become Limitless In Life & In Business | Julian Hayes II Ep.127

“WE ARE LIVING A LIMITLESS LIFE… KNOW THIS TO BE TRUE AND YOU ARE FREE.” Bert McCoy As kids, we were limitless… Remember the imagination, dreams, and aspirations we used to have? We would look up at the sky and act as if the stars were within arms reach. Our world was filled with nothing but possibilities. Somewhere along the road, we lost that spark. Whether it’s school, work, or the demands at home, we get overwhelmed and end up throwing our hands up in defeat. We accept the false reality that maybe we were just meant to be where we are. It’s time to shake that belief. What if I told you the reason you’re overwhelmed, stressed, or barely keeping up is because you haven’t fully optimized your mind, body, and time. Jut think for a second… How much you could truly accomplish when firing on all cylinders? My guest today, Julian Hayes II wants you to forget about limits and embrace your potential. As an epigenetic coach for entrepreneurs & executives, Julian is changing the way we approach aging, health, and performance. It’s easy to see that Julian’s experience comes from tested methods and years of perfecting his technique. Even still, Julian would tell you there is still so much more to explore. Hop into today’s episode and join us as we discuss: Having it all, but not all at once Auditing your Life Sleep is a nutrient for the brain Developing your system And more! How To Prevent Burnout | Scott Anderson Ep. 126

“IF YOU GET TIRED, LEARN TO REST, NOT TO QUIT.” Banksy We live in highly demanding times.  Whether it’s your job, relationships, kids, or friends, we’re always “On.” The small amazing gadgets in our pocket make us accessible 24/7 to the people we have carelessly given our credentials to. Notification goes off, and we respond. If it’s not the phone, it’s something else. Maybe it’s work deadlines, pressure to keep up with house chores, or kids calling out “mom” every 3 seconds. Whatever it may be, a lot of us have felt the constraints of obligation close in tighter and strangle us into submission.  There has got to be a better way… Thankfully, there is! “EVERY MOMENT IS A FRESH BEGINNING.” T.S. Eliot As we come into the final hours of 2020, it’s normal for a lot of us to look back and reflect. It’s that one last glance around the room before turning off the light, closing the door and moving on to your next chapter. What does that room look like? If we’re talking about 2020, I’m willing to bet it looks like a tornado went through it. It’s safe to say we all had a personal and unique experience with 2020.
