I’ve interviewed Dr. James Cantor, an internationally recognised sex researcher, neuroscientist and psychologist. He discussed his findings with paedophilia (when someone’s arousal comes from children) and how we stand the best chance, as a society, of ensuring the crime never happens in the first place. And before anyone says ‘just kill em’, I’m not talking about our options AFTER the crime’s been committed, I’m talking about BEFORE. Can we reach that person when they’re a teenager, or even as soon as they start thinking about hurting a child for the first time.And if you’re still saying ‘just kill em’, what are you actually suggesting here? They’re asking why nobody answers their calls for help before it happens, why no therapist, no counsellor will work with them, leaving them to their own devices where offending becomes much more likely. How are you feeling as you read this? Child abuse is one of the most horrific crimes that can be committed, and the people who are tasked with investigating and prosecuting it face enormous challenges and risks.
