My LinkedIn Account Has Been Hacked by a Gang from Germany Belgium Amsterdam and Montreal WTH

I don't say this because I want this to happen to anyone else. I hope it doesn't. But at some point, all of us have to ask ourselves a simple question: Where is the line? Is sitting on the couch and assuming someone else will deal with these issues really going to work? Or does there comes a point when each of us has to start paying closer attention to what's happening around us?

10:44 AM GMT – Verification code requested from Stuhr, Germany

4 hours 35 minutes later – Verification code requested from Brussels, Belgium

1 minute later – Verification code requested from Amsterdam, Netherlands

1 minute later – Second verification code requested from Amsterdam, Netherlands

Same minute – New email address (jnyadllp523@hotmail.com) added to my LinkedIn account from Amsterdam, Netherlands

1 minute later – New device sign-in from Montreal, Quebec, Canada

On July 17, I documented a series of unusual LinkedIn security alerts reporting login attempts and verification requests from Stuhr, Germany, Brussels, Belgium, Montreal, Canada, and Amsterdam, Netherlands. The activity eventually included the addition of an unauthorized Hotmail email address to my LinkedIn account. In this episode, I walk through the complete timeline, explain what LinkedIn reported, and examine the significance of each reported location.

The investigation explores publicly available information about Bremen and Stuhr, Germany; NATO and the European Union in Brussels; Montreal's financial and telecommunications infrastructure; Amsterdam's internet exchange network (AMS-IX); and the broader role these cities play in international transportation, communications, finance, government, and technology. I also discuss why these locations caught my attention while documenting the reported login attempts.

The episode also explains how this investigation interrupted my research into Walter Rodney and follows my earlier work on the murder of Maltese journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia. My previous research examined international trade routes, offshore financial structures, cross-border money flows, taxation, private equity, online gambling, technology companies, and corporate networks operating across multiple jurisdictions. Those subjects provide the background that led me to examine the locations reported in the LinkedIn notifications.

On July 17, 2026, I began receiving a series of LinkedIn security notifications that were unlike anything I had experienced before.

At first, I ignored the initial verification request because most of us have received occasional security alerts. However, additional notifications continued to arrive throughout the day, eventually creating a timeline that I thought was worth documenting.

The reported locations were not all in one country. Instead, the notifications referenced Germany, Belgium, Canada and the Netherlands before an unfamiliar email address was ultimately added to my LinkedIn account.

Rather than simply looking at the city names, I decided to research each reported location to better understand what was located there and why those areas might be significant.

The Timeline

The first notification arrived at 10:44 GMT. LinkedIn sent a verification code and reported the approximate location as Stuhr, Germany, a municipality located just southwest of Bremen.

A few hours later, at 3:19 GMT, another verification request arrived. This time the reported location was Brussels, Belgium.

Only three minutes later, at 3:22 GMT, LinkedIn notified me that there had been a sign-in attempt from a new device. The approximate location for that notification was Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Later that same day, I received two additional verification requests only one minute apart. Both listed the approximate location as Amsterdam, Netherlands.

The final notification was different. Instead of another verification request, LinkedIn informed me that an unfamiliar email address had been added to my account.

Email added:

jnyadllp523@hotmail.com

That became the first actual identifier associated with the incident.

Stuhr and Bremen, Germany

Because I had never heard of Stuhr, I started researching the area.

Stuhr is immediately southwest of Bremen in the German state of Lower Saxony. While Stuhr itself is a relatively small municipality, Bremen is an important transportation, logistics and aerospace center.

The region includes Bremen Airport, major shipping routes through Bremerhaven and the A1 Autobahn, one of Germany's primary transportation corridors connecting Scandinavia with central Europe.

Bremen is also home to Airbus Defense & Space operations, Rheinmetall Defense Electronics and the satellite company OHB, one of Europe's leading space technology companies.

Nearby Bremen also contains the Regional Territorial Command Bremen, the Bundeswehr's military liaison for the State of Bremen. Germany has also expanded Bremen's role in maritime and space defense, making the region increasingly important to Germany's defense infrastructure.

Brussels, Belgium

The second reported location was Brussels.

Brussels is widely recognized as the political headquarters of NATO and the working center of the European Union.

It is also home to the Belgian federal government, numerous foreign embassies, permanent NATO delegations, European Union representations, United Nations liaison offices and many international organizations.

Because of this concentration of governmental, diplomatic and military institutions, Brussels is one of the world's principal international political centers.

Montreal, Quebec, Canada

The third reported location was Montreal.

Montreal is one of Canada's largest financial, telecommunications and technology centers.

It is also home to McGill University and the Allan Memorial Institute, where Dr. Donald Ewen Cameron conducted the CIA-funded MKUltra experiments.

Beyond that history, Montreal remains one of Canada's major communications and financial hubs, containing significant telecommunications infrastructure and numerous federal government offices.

Amsterdam, Netherlands

The final reported location appeared twice within one minute.

Amsterdam is one of Europe's most important internet infrastructure centers.

It is home to AMS-IX, one of the world's largest internet exchanges, along with major international data centers, multinational hosting providers and communications networks that support internet traffic throughout Europe.

A Common Characteristic

Although these four locations are geographically separated, they share one common characteristic.

Each location is an internationally significant center connected with transportation, communications, finance, government, defense or technology.

That observation led me to spend additional time researching each location.

The Email Address

The final notification stated that the following email address had been added to my LinkedIn account:

jnyadllp523@hotmail.com

Unlike the reported locations, this was an actual account identifier.

I also noticed that it was a Hotmail account. Hotmail was one of the dominant email services during the early years of the public internet in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Research Background

My interest in these locations did not begin with the LinkedIn notifications.

For many years I have researched international trade routes, financial networks and the movement of money across borders.

While researching the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia in Malta, I spent considerable time examining financial networks, offshore structures and international money flows.

During that research, places such as Amsterdam, Brussels, Malta, London, Luxembourg and Dublin appeared repeatedly in discussions involving European finance, regulation, communications infrastructure and corporate structures.

I had no inside knowledge of exactly what Daphne Caruana Galizia was investigating. I simply followed financial routes that appeared significant during my own research to see where they led.

When the LinkedIn notifications began arriving from several international hubs, I documented each one and researched the locations just as I have done throughout my previous investigations.
