Get Your Mind Right | De'Andre Presley Ep. 83

Get Your Mind Right | De'Andre Presley Ep. 83

“The mind has a powerful way of attracting things that are in harmony with it, good and bad.” Idowu Koyenikan, Wealth for All: Living a Life of Success at the Edge of Your Ability What was the last big mess up you made? Does it still sit with you? (I honestly just made a big one! Haha) Our minds have the ability to keep us focused on the past. We replay situations, over and over, trying to figure out where things went wrong. If you’re like me, this happens all too often. Maybe the mind pulls this trick on you in real-time and negative thoughts plague your daily life. Did you know we have anywhere from 60,000 to 80,000 thoughts a day? Yea... Imagine how many of them are negative. Just think about the relief and calm we can enjoy by simply letting these things go... Seriously... This is your permission to switch things up! The challenge though is making this a daily practice. Trust me. I know how hard it is. I’m still working on this myself. De'Andre Presley has tasted what it’s like to perform under intense pressure. When you’re playing football at the highest level of competition, it’s important to analyze everything! It’s also important not to over-analyze. Whether it was in college, the NFL or in the transition into “civilian life,” DeAndre would have to constantly shift his mindset and focus on the next play. It’s something we all should work on in our lives. Take a listen as DeAndre and I explore his journey, share our thoughts on mindset, and highlight the importance of focusing on the next play. We all make mistakes. And that’s okay. What defines us is how we choose to play the rest of this game called life. Connect With DeAndre and MADabolic through the links below! Embrace Who You Are & Show Up | David Hawkins Ep. 82

Embrace Who You Are & Show Up | David Hawkins Ep. 82

“NEVER FORGET WHAT YOU ARE. THE REST OF THE WORLD WILL NOT. WEAR IT LIKE ARMOR, AND IT CAN NEVER BE USED TO HURT YOU.” Tyrion Lannister, Game Of Thrones It’s unreal to think of how nasty we can be to people at times. Sticks and Stones might break bones, but the words you say still matter. Being young is hard. I think we forget sometimes. Take yourself back for a moment and imagine you’re in middle school or high school. Try to remember the social pressures. What was that anxiety like? Do you remember trying to find your crowd, find some friends, or just figure out where you fit? It’s a tough time. Thankfully, some of us grow out of that. Unfortunately, I’m willing to bet a lot of us think we’ve outgrown that but secretly, it still eats us up inside. Don’t carry that weight anymore. Imagine the freedom of shedding that baggage, embracing who you are and living your truth day in and day out. Admit it, that sounds amazing! I truly admire people who are unapologetically themselves and continue to bless the world with their presence. To me, it’s refreshing and inspiring. With that being said, it’s no wonder I love and admire today’s guest so much. David Hawkins, Founder of My PR Lab, is an example of what can happen when you embrace your truth and start living! Born and raised in Greenville, South Carolina, David would graduate from S.C. Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities before spending 13 years working in New York City & Los Angeles. He found fast success with a public relations career spanning industries including entertainment, fashion, health & beauty, lifestyle, and more. In 2019 David founded what he and his team proudly proclaim as “the Upstate’s most nontraditional PR firm”, My PR Lab, in Downtown, Greenville. MY PR Lab is a full-service Public Relations and Event Management firm servicing a variety of industries. Coming from humble beginnings, David has built himself into so much more than just a business owner. He has grown into a support system and resource for business as well as a dear friend to so many others. Believe me when I say, David’s positive and supportive influence will linger in the room long after he is gone. In today’s episode, join me as we explore his story. Take a listen as we explore the importance of transparency, the benefits of embracing who we are, always showing up, and why you should work in the food industry at some point in your life. I truly hope Davids story inspires you to embrace who you are, learn to love yourself, and share your gifts with the world. David is, and we’re all lucky to enjoy the man he is today. Your Life Is Your Song | Brad Keaton Ep. 81

“EVERY LIFE COMPOSES A SONG OF IT’S OWN” Jeff Veach I don’t think it’s a bold statement to assume that 90% of you reading this love music. It makes you dance, bop, tap your toe or bob your head. Admit it, you know there’s that one song out there that gets you every time. It’s alright, I understand. Music is one of the most impactful things on the planet. We play it at weddings, at funerals and at everything in between. It’s no wonder we have such a connection to it. It’s literally a soundtrack to our lives. Face Your Challenges And Overcome | Erica Powell Ep. 80

Face Your Challenges And Overcome | Erica Powell Ep. 80

"Hard things are put in our way, not to stop us, but to call out our courage and strength.” UNKNOWN There is one thing that I can guarantee in life... You will be challenged. This concept has been a constant theme on the podcast. Everything worth having in life sits on the other side of challenges. The way we respond and adjust to these challenges will greatly impact the outcome that follows. Imagine taking that kink in your armor and turning it into your strength? How can that simple adjustment change the course of your life? Erica Powell made the decision early in life that she wasn't going to be defined by something she couldn't control. Instead, she would go on to overcome and prosper, finding success as an entrepreneur in Greenville, SC and inspiring others as an athlete, speaker, and fitness coach. With Erica's spirit, you know this is just the tip of the iceberg for this young woman who was diagnosed with retinoblastoma at the age of six. Progressive vision loss isn't something Erica tries to hide. A journey of reflection, perseverance, and acceptance has helped her push forward and overcoming challenges to build a promising and rewarding future. In this episode we discuss the importance of spending time with ourselves, working on acceptance, pushing big ideas on each other, never quitting on a bad day, and so much more. Her story is a true inspiration to all of us who are battling our own insecurities and struggling to push through and fully be ourselves. I know you'll enjoy it. The Modern Man Live: Embracing Responsibility - The Buck Stops Here

The Modern Man Live: Embracing Responsibility - The Buck Stops Here

"The Price Of Greatness Is Responsibility" Winston Churchhill I'm slowly learning what the true meaning of responsibility is. If I'm being honest, it's so much more than I could have expected. Yet, it's acceptance is still a rewarding and empowering place to be. As the year 2020 continues to pass us by, I'm hoping to embrace more of that responsibility in my life and also build on my capacity to handle it. As we discuss in this installment of The Modern Man, it's our duty as men to take responsibility for the world around us and the impact we have on each other's lives. How will you represent yourself, your family, your company, your country? You can claim as little or as much of that previous list as you want. At the end of the day, your impact on the world will be felt by someone. What type of impact will that be? This is just the tip of the iceberg when exploring what it means to embrace responsibility as men. I could not unpack this topic by myself even if I tried. As always, I needed "The Modern Man Panel" to come together and discuss the importance of embracing responsibility in our lives. Take a listen as Tyler Harris, Charles Russ, Tim Pecoraro, Jonathan Parker and I jump headfirst into this topic. Huge shoutout to Dr. Aaron Simmons of Furman University for coming out and sharing his wisdom on the topic! You Vs. You | Darius Rankin Ep. 79

You Vs. You | Darius Rankin Ep. 79

"If you know the enemy and know yourself you need not fear the results of a hundred battles." Sun Tzu Splash some water on your face and take a good long look in the mirror. Analyze that person looking back. Figure out what their strengths and weaknesses are. Use this knowledge and prepare for war. Whether we admit it or not, there is a battle within us. Every day, we must wake up, suit up, and get after it. Some days we win, some days we lose. Yet, like the sun comes up over the horizon, we get up and fight again. This podcast episode is focused on the person that stares back at you in the mirror. At the end of the day, it's You Vs. You. Today's guest, Darius Rankin has been on the podcast before. In that episode, we explored the concept of self-education and growth. Darius shared his battle with depression and the challenges of working on his craft, developing his style and finding a direction in life. This time around we focus on the enemy we all must face. Ourselves. In this episode we explore self-talk, confidence, recognizing passion, comparing ourselves with others and much more. If you're looking to explore how you can overcome yourself and get a victory, take a listen. Here's the disclaimer though... The battle must be fought each and every day.
