Change Your Habits To Reach Your Goals | Joseph Caldwell Ep. 76

Change Your Habits To Reach Your Goals | Joseph Caldwell Ep. 76

“The chains of habit are too weak to be felt until they are too strong to be broken.” Samuel Johnson If you're like me, you've probably gotten down on yourself for coming up short on an ambitious goal. It's one thing to miss the mark once or twice. It's another thing to miss the mark over and over again. When this happens, most people would likely tell you to adjust your goals. Make them more attainable and begin to stretch from there. Though the advice is sound, another approach may be to focus on your habits and improve them to meet the ambitious goals you set. My guest today, Joseph Caldwell, CEO of Consolidated Assurance and Chairman of the Board for First Responders Benefit Association says it best: "We are a slave to our habits." Joseph challenges you to not only adjust your goals but adjust your habits. Work on developing small day to day activities and constantly apply more pressure. In doing so, you will gain grit, resilience, and endurance. All it takes is time. In this episode we explore how to tackle overwhelming projects, changing habits, seeking challenges and taking responsibility for your life. There is a wealth of knowledge and value in this 35-minute episode. The Modern Man Live - Relationships Ep. 75

The Modern Man Live - Relationships Ep. 75

Believe it or not, a lot of our success boils down to the relationships we have with others. It's dependant on the type of environment we set up around ourselves. In the book Outliers Malcolm Gladwell observes: "When we see the tallest tree in a forest, we know that it has come from a good seed. But we must also take into account that it has been planted in good soil, and that its leaves have been able to reach the sunlight unimpeded, that it was not shadowed by some larger tree. The tree’s good seed is its “innate” ability, but the combination of its circumstances have allowed it to achieve great heights." Malcom Gladwell - Outliers The same can be said for when you consider personal growth. The people we surround ourselves with will have a large impact on the person we become. Even further, the quality of the relationships we have with those around us will impact the level of effectiveness those interactions have. On October 6th, 2019 The Modern Man Panel and I sat down to discuss the importance of relationships and how they can positively or negatively affect us. We all know that one person that sucks the room dry once they arrive. Or the life of the party who is sure to get the energy going. Just like these two extremes can shape a room, the mild middle can slowly and affectedly alter your life. Cultivate the relationship you want to have with other people. Invite people to see the real issues you face. Finally, use vulnerability as a tool of strength, not a shield of weakness. Take a listen as Tyler Harris, Charles Russ, Tim Pecoraro, Jonathan Parker and I unpack what it means for men to improve the relationships in their lives. Happy New Year From No Rain... No Rainbows Ep. 74

Happy New Year From No Rain... No Rainbows Ep. 74

Here we are... A new year and a new decade. Have you locked in your New Year Resolutions yet? This is a time where many of us look towards new beginnings and fresh starts. It's refreshing. I personally love New Year. not so much as a launching pad for starting new things, but for checking on the progress of the ambitious goals I set for myself. Just think about it... Where will you be exactly 12 months from now? How much would you have grown between now and then? Sure, the New Year can signify the beginning of something great. However, much like the rings on the inside of a tree representing each year of growth, New Year can serve as the ultimate checkpoint to gauging our growth. It's a reminder to keep going. A reminder that we are being measured. Not in terms of value or accomplishments, but in terms of fulfillment and joy. I hope you are a completely different person today than who you were 12 months ago. I also hope the person you are 12 months from now is a stranger compared to today's version. Nothing wrong with who you are now. You are valued, loved and enough. But Just imagine the person you could become if you continued to grow the way you have done so already. The clock starts now. See you in 2021, stranger. Happy New Year! Merry Christmas From No Rain… No Rainbows Ep. 73

Merry Christmas From No Rain… No Rainbows Ep. 73

“What is Christmas? It is tenderness for the past, courage for the present, hope for the future.” Agnes M. Pahro You hear it all the time… “It’s the most wonderful time of the year.” It’s true. Everyone seems to have an extra pep in their step or sparkle in their eye. People have an air about them that emits joy and unity. Many people seem to think it’s because of all the gifts they receive. I tend to disagree. The reason so many people enjoy this time of year is because of the joy they get to GIVE others by gifting. Whether it’s donations, gifts, or time, people love the feeling of being able to help and serve others. I’d like to keep that feeling going throughout the entire year. With this podcast, No Rain… No Rainbows, I hope to inspire you to keep pushing for what you know you deserve. Whether it’s everyday life, ambitious goals or simple setbacks, I want this podcast to help you overcome and persevere. The truth is, I can’t do that if I don’t know what it is you need. I’m inviting you to reach out and let us know what you would like to see more of on the podcast. What would you like to see less of? Send the names of some guests you would love to see interviewed on the show. Let us know what it is you want and I promise, we will do our best to deliver. That is our Christmas Gift to you. Take Control Of Your Life With Affirmations | Tia McAlister Ep. 72

Take Control Of Your Life With Affirmations | Tia McAlister Ep. 72

“Don’t be pushed around by the fears in your mind. Be led by the dreams in your heart.” Roy T. Bennett, The Light in the Heart What are the things you tell yourself? Are they positive or negative? A lot of people have spoken highly about affirmations, but simply saying it isn’t enough. You also need to feel it. You need to embrace and believe it. Even if no one else does. More importantly, you need to do it. Day in, and day out! It’s easy for us to fall into the trap of doubting ourselves, critiquing ourselves and bringing ourselves down. I mean, who doesn’t love a good pity party? After an appropriate amount of time, though, it’s time to turn things around and get after it. Here is our hard to swallow “pill” of the day; “Your dreams won’t wait for you to wake up.” If you asked this episode's guest, she would tell you to make a list today and cross it off tomorrow. Then wake up and repeat. As a Greenville native, Tia Mcalister knows how to build from the ground up. After years in the hospitality industry, she began her wedding planning company in 2008. It started from a big dream in a tiny apartment and grew into RSVP Upstate Weddings and Events where she served the industry for nearly eight years.  Tia would go on to become the owner of Complete weddings + events Greenville and Columbia and take on the event world by storm. Her drive, focus, and a tenacious attitude help to create amazing and memorable events for her clients. We sit down and discuss the journey of discovering one’s passion, taking on big challenges and high risks, and speaking positive affirmations throughout the process. How To Start Eating Healthy | TheCookingDoc Ep. 71

How To Start Eating Healthy | TheCookingDoc Ep. 71

“When diet is wrong, medicine is of no use. When diet is correct, medicine is of no need.” Ayurvedic Proverb I'll start with this... Eating healthy is hard! I'm not here to convince you that it isn't. I fight the same urges, the same cravings, and the same temptations that you do. Trust me, we all go through it. If we can agree on that, we also can agree that the benefits and advantages provided by a healthy diet are too blatant to ignore. We have to make it a priority. Unfortunately changing the habits that took years to develop is easier said than done. How can we simply abandon the indulgences and treats we've enjoyed for the better half of a decade and fill the void with celery sticks and veggie juice? NO THANK YOU! Dr. Blake Shusterman, also known as TheCookingDoc would advise you to start slow and work your way there slowly. As a nephrologist (kidney doctor) practicing in Greenville, SC at Carolina Nephrology, TheCookingDoc learned quickly how important the right diet was for true healthy living. A passion for food mixed with a desire to heal has led to a journey of healthy recipes and new experiences. Dr. Shusterman even mentions the impact of food and planning when it comes to his daily life! This allows TheCookingDoc to serve and heal his patients both through his practice and his passion. Forming the perfect side dish to a happier and healthier lifestyle. Join TheCookingDoc and I as we discuss the importance of Mentorship early in his career, learning new recipes, and occasional indulgences. You'll hear some of our favorite healthy food options as well as some tips that may help make your next attempt at healthy eating the last. Turning Your Passion Into Your Business | Ryan Mosley Ep. 70

Turning Your Passion Into Your Business | Ryan Mosley Ep. 70

“Passion is energy. Feel the power that comes from focusing on what excites you.” OPRAH WINFREY I'm sure you've heard the saying before... "Do what you love and the money will come." Unfortunately, a lot of times that's a whole bunch of bologna. The real saying should go like this... "Applying what you love to a system or structure of income will provide you with a life worth living." The key here is "A life worth living." You don't need to be rich. You just need to enjoy the life you live. A lot of us have passions or hobbies that we gravitate to. Whether it's videogames, comic books, horseback riding or street fashion, we all have something that pulls on our heart and intrigues the mind. What is that for you? Today's guest, Ryan Mosely, Owner of Varsity Goods in Greenville, SC knew what his passion was early. By the age of 25, he is the owner of his own storefront selling vintage goods, collectibles, designer sneakers, and some the best nods to pop culture this side of the Mississippi. Some may ask... How can you take an interest in old clothes, overpriced sneakers, and random junk and turn it into a business? Now, I can't speak for Ryan. But something tells me he would just smile and say, "you gotta understand the culture." Value can mean so many things to so many different people. Just like one man's trash is another man's treasure, the items of Varsity Goods is a curation of some of the finest treasures you didn't know you needed. Ryan's understanding of nostalgia, history, and the importance of connection is what sets him and his store apart from the rest. Take a listen to this week's episode as we discuss the culture of vintage clothing, rare sneakers and more. We'll break down some items you might want to get if you're just starting out. Also, we touch on why we think the vintage culture and the respect of old school icons are making a comeback. If you're in the Greenville area, be sure to connect with Ryan Mosely and stop by his store Varsity Goods the next chance you get a chance. You won't be disappointed! Why You Should Market Yourself | Ryan Alford Ep. 69

Why You Should Market Yourself | Ryan Alford Ep. 69

“Marketing is really just about sharing your passion.” Michael Hyatt, Virtual Business Mentor You hear two terms thrown around a lot in business... Sales & Marketing. Which one is more important? There are countless debates that pit the two against each other and jump from one point to the other. This is not an episode about all that debate. This is an episode simply about marketing. Marketing is something we all should be doing on some level if we intend on moving up in our career, industry or business. Without marketing, does anyone really know who you are or what it is you do? In today's world, it's easy for our reputation to precede us. The things we share online via, Facebook, Instagram, Linked In, and more can put us in a position to get discovered. When I say discovered, I'm not talking about becoming rich and famous. I'm talking about a head hunter finding you and getting you a new job. Your next raise, career big opportunity can all be on the other side of your next follow, DM, or retweet. Ryan Alford, Founder & CEO of Radical Company & ComRADery Co-work knows a lot about marketing. His experience in the business spans back more than two decades. Ryan took his experience and knowledge from New York back to the Upstate of South Carolina, to build Radical Company into a Seven Figure business in the span of just 18 months. His approach and execution is straight forward and to the point. You can tell that it is his direct and clear communication that helps drive his business success. So when Ryan tells you that you should AT LEAST be sharing your expertise and content on Linked In... You Listen! Take a listen as Ryan and I jump into Marketing both business and yourself. We discuss challenges in growing a business, keeping up with change and practicing self-awareness.
