Raindrops: Night Night!

Raindrops: Night Night!

It's time for another raindrop! This week I want to talk about the importance of ending your day with a plan. I know we hear all the time about the importance of a morning routine. But what about your evening routine? I would argue that the end of your day is slightly more important than the start of it. The reason is that your evening is what sets up your morning! For me, I need my clothes picked out, my day mapped out and my lunch packed before I call it a night. It allows me to fully utilize the time I have during the day and execute the task as hand. If I don't plan accordingly, I am setting myself up for failure. PERIOD! With that being said, today's tip is to write down your plans for the next day each night before you go to sleep. Use your google calendar to keep track of all your meetings, lunches and obligations. Seriously, I even have my meditation and work programmed in it! Make this a habit and before you know it, it will become second nature. Use this to fully take advantage of the time you have during the day and cut down on time wasted thinking about the next thing you have to do. I hope this helps! Comment below with any other tips you may have! #LetsGrow

Change Your Perspective With Better Questions | Aaron Simmons, Ph.D Ep. 68

Change Your Perspective With Better Questions | Aaron Simmons, Ph.D Ep. 68

"Life is filled with unanswered questions, but it is the courage to seek those answers that continues to give meaning to life.” J.D. Stroube Someone once told me that the value of my questions will directly influence the value of the answers I receive. With that in mind, I always do my best to be conscious of the thoughts I allow to manifest in my head. Many of us go through life never questioning our own perspective. Why is it we think a certain way? What are the reasons for my core values and beliefs? Why do I do the things I do the way I do them? These questions can be overwhelming, I know. However, they're also necessary! They're necessary if we really want to learn what it means to see things from a different perspective. What does it look like to step outside of our bodies for a second and imagine what the world looks like through different eyes? This isn't about debunking your own views and beliefs. It's about being humble enough to explore other perspectives and expand your own. That is where growth lies. That is how you improve yourself. Dr. Aaron Simmons has been asking questions his whole life. His journey has led him to Greenville, SC where he is an Associate Professor of Philosophy at Furman University. He holds a Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University and has previously been a member of the faculty at The University of the South (Sewanee) and Hendrix College. In this episode, we explore the questions that drive us and how we can use them to see the world in a different light. He even completely reworks our understanding and translation of the title of this very podcast! You certainly want to listen to this episode a couple of times in order to catch the amount of value that's packed into it! As always, share with a friend if you enjoyed the episode. Xpress Yourself | Jarell Rochelle Ep. 67

Xpress Yourself | Jarell Rochelle Ep. 67

“When you dance, you can enjoy the luxury of being you.” Paulo Coelho There is a voice deep within yourself that is dying to scream from the mountain tops and be heard. It is a voice that is unique to you and one that the world would be blessed to hear. Unfortunately, many of those voices will never be heard. Not everyone feels compelled to tap their toes or move their hips when they hear a catchy tune. I get it. But to claim you can't dance... I don't buy it. Sure, some folks can hold a rhythm better than others or contort their bodies in ways only an elite few can. But those are exceptions to the rule. All of us, have the ability to hear some form of music and react to it with movement. That movement is your voice... When I dance, I rarely plan what move I'm going to do next. I just let myself get taken over by the music. There's joy and expression in the moves my body creates. Jarell Rochell knows very well what that expression looks like. He and his forever dance partner, Maddy have pushed for expression of self through dance with their Xpress Vibe Movement. It doesn't take long to feel the energy that Jarell emits. His presence and style are sure to attract the positive in any room and have you gravitating towards his smile and warm demeanor. You're likely to comment on his magnetically styled shoes to which he'd reply something along the lines of; "Oh you know, just a little POP to show off who I am." You'd think Jarell's charming and charismatic personality was natural and instinctual from birth, but Jarell would tell you otherwise. Rochelle would have to spend years figuring out who he was and how to express himself. Looking at him now, I'd say he's got the juice... Hop into this episode of "No Rain... No Rainbows" and listen to Jarells Journey from moonwalking in the fourth grade to shutting down dancefloors across the country. One Stroke At A Time | Joe Everson Ep. 66

One Stroke At A Time | Joe Everson Ep. 66

"Use your blood to paint. Keep painting until you faint. Keep painting until you die.” Yoko Ono How bad do you want to see your goals and aspirations come into fruition? I've heard a number of people say that we often overestimate what we can accomplish in a year but underestimate what we can accomplish in a decade. Small habits repeated over time will pay off in a huge way. The question is, are you able to hold on to those habits long enough for our trees to bear fruit. When you have a craft you're working on, it takes a long time to mature. You have to water that craft, care for it, perfect it, and give in to it for years before you see any significant return. Frustration, doubt, stress, and adversity are just a few emotions that will be sure to hit while you work your hardest to make your dream a reality. Joe Everson knows all about the struggle. This renaissance man is an artist, vocalist, musician, and photographer. His journey to becoming America's first and only singing/action painter was anything but sunshine and rainbows. Fist landing in Greenville, SC to accept a job offer, Joe had to build his craft while working a full-time job. Every gig, every art show, and every painting slowly inched him closer to his goal until the perfect mixture of paint and voice would propel him to a new level. Joe's viral videos of singing the national anthem while paining live have gotten over 220 million views and have him shaking hands with the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Statham, Steph Curry, Ice Cube, Draymond Green and more. Hop into this episode and find out how Joe spent countless nights and days perfecting his craft, giving to the art and making his dreams come true. This is a true Rain to Rainbows story. You Don't Need Sight To Have Vision | Kenneth E. Hughes Ep. 65

You Don't Need Sight To Have Vision | Kenneth E. Hughes Ep. 65

“The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision.” Helen Keller When was the last time you planned where you wanted to go in life? I mean really plan it. What age do you want to retire? What car do you want to drive in ten years? How about the job you want to work for the rest of your life? If we don't paint a picture of the life we want to live, someone else is sure to do it for us. Often times that image isn't what we really want. Sometimes, we have a vision for where we want to go in life but the universe has other plans. On occasion, we find ourselves having to change our plans or adjust to a new life. It's especially hard when we don't see that change coming. What if you spent most of your life knowing something was wrong but couldn't find the validation or proof to back it up? How would you feel if people around you were constantly placing labels and blame on the outcomes that were simply beyond your control? For most of us, we wouldn't be able to handle it well. Fortunately my guest today isn't most of us. Kenneth E. Hughes is a local, natural-born comedian in the Greenville area who began developing his craft at an early age. Coming from a large family with southern roots, family gatherings automatically became Kenneth's first stage. In his early 20s, Kenneth’s life changed when he was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP), a hereditary disorder causing gradual and progressive blindness. By his 30s, Kenneth lost the majority of his vision and was forced to leave a job he loved. Not knowing what life had in store for him, Kenneth soon found his own niche among the comedy scene. Being black, blind and gay, he is proud to wield the title of a “Triple Minority”. He is also self-proclaimed as the world’s first blind sex symbol, to which many whole-heartedly agree when personally asked by him. In 2017, Kenneth founded 20/20 Productions and has been producing his own shows featuring the talents of many comedians from the Upstate and Southeast region. In addition to managing his production company, he is also proud to work for Able South Carolina as an Independent Living Specialist offering peer support to others in the disabled community. Get So Good That It Becomes Easy | Ryan McMorris Ep. 64

Get So Good That It Becomes Easy | Ryan McMorris Ep. 64

"You can't hit a homerun every time. Sometimes you just need to get on base" Unknown Do you remember the first steps you took as a baby? What about the average of 38 times a day you'd fall during the first four years of your life? I'm guessing you don't. The thought of not being able to walk is probably as much of a fantasy as unicorns to you. (No disrespect to any handicap readers/listeners of course.) I simply make this point to bring to your attention an activity you likely do every day that was once difficult. If I were a betting man, I'd say the number of falls and stumbles you've logged in the past year totals 38 or less! What if I told you starting a business could be as easy as walking? What if making your next buck was simply a matter of putting one foot in front of the other? The problem is most people don't go through the 38 falls a day in business or in life in order to learn how to do the hard stuff. We spend our days comfortably strolling through life making sure not to fall and scrape out philosophical knees. My guest today, Ryan McMorris has been through the falls and has had his fair share of scraped elbows. Learning to walk in the Online Business Niche, Ryan and his wife now reach back and coach others on how to make irresistible offers for their clients. If you're in the online space or looking to get into the online space, Ryan and his wife are there to help you. But their journey wasn't all sunshine and rainbows. Ryan had to redefine himself after leaving a career as a professional baseball player and searching for his new identity. It's easy to listen to the little voices in your head when your vision isn't loud enough to drown them out. Maybe it's time to get a bigger vision. Take a listen to Ryans' story and learn how you can start taking the steps you need and push through the falls until walking becomes easy again. This is how you get so good that it becomes easy. Riding The Airwaves | Pastor Lenny Ep. 63

Riding The Airwaves | Pastor Lenny Ep. 63

“Life is like a river. You just have to go with the flow and not let the pesky rocks in the water get in your way.” Meg Bowling Sometimes it's not so much about where you're going in life. It's about what you plan on taking with you. If you're a reader, watcher or listener of the podcast, chances are you're a growth-minded person. You have goals and ambitions and probably a number of plans you expect to do once you get there. But what if you don't like where you end up? What if the unexpected happens and you're forced to take a step back due to circumstances out of your control? For many, these unfortunate occurrences can really take a hit to one's ego. That hit can be especially bruising for someone who is young. My guest today, Pastor Lenny Gaines knows all about that hit. Having begun a career in radio at a young age, Pastor Lenny enjoyed success early in life. Though that success did not come easy, the doors that opened as a result of it can quickly become overwhelming. As Pastor Lenny shares in this episode, success at a young age that is not guided or managed is not a formula of longevity. After a number of opportunities, setbacks and a brief time in the world of education, Pastor Lenny finds himself back where he started in Radio. And if you were to ask him yourself, He'd probably tell you he's right where he belongs. Take a listen as Pastor Lenny shares his rollercoaster of a story and gives us some insightful reflection on the lessons he has learned. If you're looking for growth and don't know if you're on the right path. Let Pastor Lenny's story motivate you to trust the process. You just need to keep riding the wave! Escaping Bad Relationships | Andrej, Charles, & Ben EP. 62

Escaping Bad Relationships | Andrej, Charles, & Ben EP. 62

“Letting go means to come to the realization that some people are a part of your history, but not a part of your destiny.” Steve Maraboli A lot of my content lately has focused on the importance of relationships. Now, when I say relationships, I’m not just talking about your spouse or significant other. I’m talking about your friends, co-workers, family members, business partners, children, and parents. It really covers all spectrums. Regardless of the situations, all relationships will have an impact on you. Whether it’s positive or negative depends on how you’ve established that interaction. When doing an audit of the people you tend to spend a lot of time with, you may find some that serve you and others that don’t. The relationships that serve you will be easy to spot. When you’re with that person you feel comfortable, energized, validated, and confident. They’re the type of relationships that breed some of your best performances in whatever it is you’re doing. The negative relationships though can be a bit harder to spot. That’s because they like to disguise themselves as positive ones. You may feel validated but on all the wrong things. You may feel comfortable but that could be at your own detriment. When you dig past the surface and ask yourself the true purpose and value of a particular relationship, you might not always like the answer. Especially when it’s a relationship you’ve gown dependant on. In this episode, I actually share a conversation about escaping bad relationships. Ben Harris runs the Goalink show and was generous enough to have me on. He, Charles Russ, Andrej Suttles & I sat down and really began to explore ways to identify bad relationships and how to escape them. The following is a feature from the Goalink Podcast.
